SafeData, LLC, a technology company focused on helping companies protect their data, minimize downtime and recover and restore data quickly, has announced major enhancements to its System i Recovery Service. The company's data recovery offering provides organizations with a 300 percent improvement in restoration times ensuring business continuity during system failures, the company says.
"The challenge with data recovery from electronic vaults is the same as with tape backup," explained Peter Briggs, president of SafeData. "If your system fails, you still need to be able to restore data to a working System i server. Having a 'quick ship' model or providing the client with a mobile vault does not really address the need for the more rapid recovery times needed in today's fast-paced business environment. Our Recovery Service not only dramatically improves restoration times but does it at a price point that makes it accessible to all-sized organizations."
By implementing a virtual recovery solution at the target vaulting facility, SafeData can now perform a full restoration in just hours, the company says. SafeData has a large inventory of System i servers and logical partitions configured directly to its vaults via a high speed LAN connection. The customer has VPN connectivity to its data until its system is restored. SafeData's System i Recovery Service also offers an option for bi-directional connectivity and communication that takes the guesswork out of user access to the restored system.
SafeData's virtual restoration service is now available for the same price as traditional "hot site" approaches--the difference is a 48 to 72 hour recovery with a hot site versus three to 10 hours with SafeData's service.
"Disk-to-disk backup that is encrypted and copied to several different storage pools and combined with a guaranteed recovery in just hours is a compelling service offering for System i shops looking for adequate data protection and disaster recovery services for an increasingly competitive marketplace," added Briggs.
SafeData Launches Managed HA Services
SafeData announced in August the launch of its Managed High Availability Services. This offering provides organizations with 24/7 monitoring and problem resolution, audits and scheduled switch tests to ensure the stability and confidence of their HA environments.
Gartner Group estimates that 50 percent of companies that build out an HA solution fail their disaster recovery (DR) tests, and 95 percent of all companies never complete their DR testing. According to Gartner, this is due to the lack of specific knowledge of the technology and very limited IT resources within these organizations.
"The IT resources in businesses today are stretched very thin and running a stable replication system still remains a complex process," says Briggs. "Many IT departments don't perform periodic role swaps and don't correct errors as often as they should. Our Managed Services offering takes the guesswork out of running high availability and its price point makes it an affordable option for companies looking for an immediate return on their investment."
SafeData can manage an HA environment in the customer network or through its subscription service that provides replication software, iSeries hardware, and redundant network in one of its carrier-class data centers. Through either model, SafeData offers 24/7 automated monitoring of the HA environment as well as manual daily and weekly monitoring and incident management services. The company also offers auditing services, ensuring that HA audits are active and running per the recommended intervals. Additionally, SafeData works with its clients to identify roles and responsibilities and perform processes for both virtual and live role-swap tests. In the event of a disaster, SafeData will perform necessary fail-over procedures to ensure the availability of its client's data.
