Vision Solutions has announced an implementation of its AIX data replication and continuous data protection (CDP) technologies with the installation of EchoStream for AIX at the Malaysia-based DKSH Holdings. The install adds another multinational customer to Vision's presence in the AIX market.

With nearly $7 billion in revenue and more than 21,000 employees, DKSH Holdings (KUL: DKSH), a market expansion services company, recently implemented Vision Solutions' EchoStream for AIX at its Malaysian data center, which was established to process its global business transactions. Known as the organization's Corporate Shared Services Centre (CSSC), the Kuala Lumpur operation is setting new industry standards for market information access and utilizes an SAP-based enterprise resource planning (ERP) solution serving business units catering to local and multi-national business partners.

Providing these services requires the continuous availability of massive amounts of business data. In the event of data loss or corruption, the CSSC must be able to perform a fast, easy recovery to resume operations. It was with these requirements in mind that DKSH began its search for an effective data protection and recovery solution.

"EchoStream for AIX is absolutely essential to our business continuity because it gives us the power to keep critical data protected and available at all times, without the manual labor or downtime of traditional backup solutions," says MK Lee, DKSH CSSC technical and operations manager.

The organization evaluated numerous disaster recovery solutions before selecting EchoStream for AIX to keep its critical applications available in an increasingly competitive environment. Its "proof-of-concept" evaluation confirmed the Vision Solutions' replication and CDP software were the best fit for its demanding disaster-recovery requirements.

"EchoStream for AIX includes innovative CDP technology that enables businesses to recover data from any point in time, easily and rapidly-even accidentally deleted or otherwise corrupted data," says Richard Tee, Vision Solutions' regional sales director for South Asia Pacific. "And because it works automatically in the background, EchoStream for AIX doesn't require planned system downtime to perform backups--it was a perfect fit for DKSH's disaster recovery strategy."

With the help of EchoStream for AIX and a nearby hosted IBM facility, the data center now has solid disaster recovery capabilities. In the event of unexpected outages such as power disruptions or communications line failures, or if DKSH experiences accidental or malicious data loss, it can rapidly recover and resume operations from a viable backup environment. The CSSC servers provide data protection and backup for systems supporting Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Philippines, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Thailand, European Union, Japan and The Netherlands. Disaster recovery drills and exercises are conducted regularly to ensure a smooth transmission in the event of a crisis.

"From both IT and budgetary standpoints, EchoStream for AIX is a cost effective solution that fits our requirements exactly for a Tier 5 disaster recovery backup," adds Lee. "This is the only shared service center in the world to support our global business operations. We need proven disaster recovery capabilities to protect our operations and to satisfy regulatory requirements. EchoStream for AIX gives us the confidence that we can do just that."
