Already supporting AIX and Linux, and earlier versions of Solaris, SBAdmin will be ready to support Oracle Solaris 11 Express.
Storix, Inc., provider of a Unix-based system recovery solution for AIX, Solaris and Linux systems, today announced an update of System Backup Administrator 7.2 (SBAdmin) to include support for Oracle Solaris 11 Express. Storix earlier announced general availability of SBAdmin V7.2 with support for AIX 7 and Tivoli Storage Manager (TSM) 6.2.
With SBAdmin, Solaris 11 Express customers can reliably perform system recovery to the same or different hardware, including physical to virtual migrations. SBAdmin supports Solaris 11 Express on both Intel 64-bit and SPARC hardware.
“Announcing Solaris 11 Express support is a clear indicator of Storix’s ongoing commitment to future releases of Oracle Solaris, including the much anticipated release of Oracle Solaris 11, expected sometime in the fall (2011),” says Manuel Altamirano, sales and marketing director at Storix. “Storix is already testing with an early adopter release of Oracle Solaris 11, ensuring customers will have a reliable bare-metal recovery solution in the absence of Solaris Flash Archive.”
As an active member of the Oracle Partner Network, Storix will be showcasing the new release at this year’s Oracle OpenWorld, taking place October 2-6, 2011, in San Francisco, CA. (Oracle Linux Pavilion, 2241 Moscone South)
Following is a list of SBAdmin V7.2 leading features:
- Linux, AIX, and Solaris Support
- AIX 7 and TSM V6.2 support
- Flexible bare-metal recovery
- Local and network backups
- Optional TSM integration
- Backup data encryption
- New system recovery features
- New backup device management
- Enhanced management interface
- New features supporting Oracle ZFS features
SBAdmin provides Adaptable System Recovery (ASR)—the ability to rebuild AIX, Solaris, or Linux systems from bare-metal. This gives customers the flexibility to alter the configuration as needed to fit onto any hardware or virtual configuration. ASR adapts a backup to the hardware detected during installation, rebuilding the new system to the same state as the prior system. The complete restore from bare-metal can be managed locally or remotely and can take just minutes.
The power and flexibility of ASR greatly reduces downtime during disasters or planned outages, exceeding the user’s RTO. SBAdmin can also be used for provisioning/cloning of multiple systems and software storage alteration for improved system availability, recoverability and performance. SBAdmin is available for Linux, AIX and Solaris.
Hardware support includes all Intel 32-bit and 64-bit, IBM Power Systems, Oracle Sun SPARC and HP Itanium 2 systems. SBAdmin V7.2 has support for AIX 7 and Tivoli Storage Manager 6.2. SBAdmin V7.2 TSM Edition complements an existing TSM environment with the added benefit of Adaptable System Recovery lately available for AIX 7.
“With SBAdmin 7.2 TSM Edition, administrators can configure and manage system backups from a central management console,” says Anthony Johnson, president and founder of Storix. “Backups are written directly to a TSM server, and administrators can boot and recover entire systems directly from their TSM backup. SBAdmin embraces something that is potentially very complicated and transforms it into an intuitive, reliable, yet highly flexible system recovery solution.”
With ASR and the ability to rebuild AIX, Solaris, or Linux systems from bare-metal, customers have the flexibility to alter the configuration as needed to fit onto any hardware or virtual configuration. ASR essentially adapts a backup to the hardware detected during installation, rebuilding the new system to the same state as the prior system. If SBAdmin detects differences between the backup and newly detected hardware, it will make recommendations, such as selection of new disks or automated shrinking of file systems.
SBAdmin V7.2 supports Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6. RHE 6 came with many new feature enhancements and additions optimizing the capabilities of customer hardware. Now, with SBAdmin, customers can perform system recovery to the same or different hardware, or to and from virtual systems. SBAdmin works on all supported Red Hat platforms, including Intel 32-bit, 64-bit or IBM Power Systems.
“Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 provides customers with the comprehensive groundwork needed for physical, virtual and cloud deployments,” says Johnson, “And with more customers migrating their mission-critical systems to Linux, it’s no surprise that Storix continues its alliance with Red Hat by continuing to offer its customers the most flexible solution for bare-metal restore and hardware migration.”
SBAdmin provides a choice of user interfaces for intuitive management of a single or hundreds of backup clients, various data backup options, and optional data encryption and integration with IBM Tivoli Storage Manager.
SBAdmin V7.2 TSM Edition is available starting at $435 for a single Linux/x86 client license and $842 for a single AIX client license. Prices for other platforms and servers vary depending on server and system configuration. Licenses include one-year maintenance for access to technical support, software updates and new releases during the coverage period. Technical support is provided via phone or online, with 24/7 support at no charge for urgent recovery situations.
