iAMP Server solution stack includes all you need to develop IBM i Web applications with what AURA calls "reasonable support fees."
All components needed for IBM i PHP Web application development are included in a new solution stack, iAMP Server, from AURA Equipements, and is now ready for free download from www.easycom-aura.com. iAMP stands for IBM i + Apache + MySQL + PHP.
iAMP Server is based on common and standard packages: Apache (HTTP server V2.2.21), MySQL (5.1.59) and PHP (5.3.8, with common extensions). To complete the solution stack, AURA added its robust Easycom V4 for native access to IBM i data and programs. Formerly known as the “i5 Toolkit,” Easycom was packaged with Zend’s PHP solution from 2006 to 2011.
The new iAMP Server solution stack can be downloaded free from AURA and partners. AURA’s annual support licenses for iAMP Server are priced very reasonably, according to the company.
In the United States and Canada, support and consulting services are provided by IBM i expert Chris Hird from Shield Advanced Solutions.
Features and Benefits of iAMP Server
AURA CEO Sylvain Rubele lists major features and benefits of iAMP Server as the following:
- Full compliance with web technology standards, so all the components on the IBM i behave xactly as they do on any other Unix and Linux platform
- Easy and fast installation procedure with a very light footprint on the system
- Multiple installs can run at the same time
- Multiple instances of the applications can run concurrently
- iAMP Server is efficient and scalable
- Premium annual support licenses start at $1,500
Technical Details of iAMP Server
The Apache HTTP server based on the standard package includes the latest security fixes. Developers and software vendors will be able to build and load their own Apache modules in addition to the PHP module embedded in iAMP Server.
PHP is a module that is loaded by Apache, providing better integration and response time. iAMP Server includes most of the common PHP extensions, including database access, optimizers, code caching and debug. Software developers will be able to develop and load their own extensions.
A standard version of MySQL is part of iAMP Server, which ensures that packaged PHP applications have all the standard components they need to be deployed on IBM I platform.
Easycom V4, formerly known as the original PHP i5 Toolkit, accesses all IBM i specific objects and features: Native Program and Procedures calls, System commands and APIs, database access, queues and lists, spool files, etc.
The Easycom extension can be loaded from any PHP server on Linux, Windows and IBM i, including Zend Server. No additional components are required to access all data and objects from PHP.
AURA Equipements maintains iAMP Server and continues to include the latest updates available from the open source communities as they become stable.
With an installed base of more than 20,000 users and 10,000 developer licenses, AURA is the leader in interoperability between the IBM i and the new technology tools in the Windows/AIX/Linux worlds. Thousands of users are connected today to IBM i and AS/400 systems through AURA's Easycom and LAUNCHER/400 solutions. AURA has been offering development tools that provide simplicity, efficiency, security and portability since 1986. For more information, visit www.easycom-aura.com.
