Vision joins with IBM and Arrow OCS to protect mid-market customers with what the companies say is the 'fastest way to HA.'

Vision Solutions announced at COMMON the Vision Solutions Availability Appliance, an offering that enables businesses to benefit from pre-installed high availability solutions on industry-leading IBM Power Systems and System x servers.

Through the Premier Partnership with IBM, Vision is offering the Vision Availability Appliance, a low-cost solution that will support mid-market customers with high availability for Windows and IBM i operating environments. The OEM (original equipment manufacturing) Computing Solutions business arm of Arrow Electronics, Inc. is providing installation and shipping support for the appliance.

By capturing changes to data, applications and critical system objects in real time and replicating them to alternate backup servers, the appliance helps eliminate planned downtime, improve application service levels, and allows companies to quickly respond to operational changes. Together, with Double-Take and MIMIX high availability software offered by Vision Solutions, companies can ensure continuously available data and applications.

Appliance Highlights

Powered by IBM Power and System x servers, the new Vision Availability Appliance enables businesses to quickly and easily deploy an affordable availability solution. The appliance is available for Microsoft Windows and includes Double-Take Availability running on an IBM System x server, as well as for IBM i, which includes MIMIX Availability running on an IBM Power Systems server. Each of these Vision Solutions' high availability software products is designed to prevent unplanned outages and facilitate planned downtime so business systems can keep running 24/7.

Customers may order the Vision Availability Appliance from their local Vision Solutions reseller and have that solution pre-installed and tested by Arrow OEM Computing Solutions prior to arriving at the customer's site ready for integration. The new appliance benefits include:

  • Trusted solutions from IBM and Vision Solutions
  • Multiple configurations (M3, X5, and Power 720)
  • Availability software pre-installed
  • A simple-to-order, single part number
  • Fast, affordable, yet innovative high availability

Appliance for Double-Take

Double-Take Availability for IBM System x provides full-featured automated switching and failover for true high availability on physical and virtual Windows and Linux environments. Especially designed for VMware vSphere and Microsoft Hyper-V, Double-Take Availability also includes robust hardware and application-independent clustering with or without underlying logical replication. It's robust, yet affordable and very easy to manage. Also, with the Vision Availability Appliance, the IBM System x server will arrive at the site pre-installed with Double-Take Availability and ready for configuration and implementation.

Appliance for MIMIX

MIMIX Availability for IBM i is an ideal solution for high availability protection for IBM Power Systems environments, large and small. The Vision Solutions Portal simplifies administration of the solution while ensuring absolute data integrity in any environment, including those using intraserver, bidirectional, and cascade replication. MIMIX Availability virtually eliminates planned and unplanned system downtime, boosts productivity, and accelerates business processes. Also, with the Vision Availability Appliance, the IBM Power System will arrive at the site pre-installed with MIMIX and ready for configuration and implementation.

"By joining with IBM and Arrow OCS, Vision Solutions is proud to be first-to-market with appliance solutions that help mid-market customers protect their systems," said Bob Johnson, senior vice president of sales with Vision Solutions. "Many companies, ranging from supply-chain businesses to healthcare and financial institutions, simply cannot afford for systems to go down at all. Together, we eliminate complexities and empower mid-sized businesses with the same high availability capabilities the Fortune 1000 have come to trust," said Johnson.

Inna Kuznetsova, vice president, systems software, at IBM, said, "The new appliance benefits from the tight integration between IBM System Software including the i operating system and industry-leading IBM servers to provide mid-market customers with a choice of server platforms and fast implementation of a pre-integrated and tested high availability offering to protect business critical data. We are excited to partner with Arrow and Vision Solutions to bring the new appliance to market and help our customers to accelerate the deployment of a high-availability solution, vital for the mission-critical workloads and data protection."

Ned Kelly, vice president of sales with Arrow OCS said, "The new Vision Availability Appliance is a significant offering for mid-market customers across the globe. We are pleased to team with IBM and Vision to pre-install this solution and assist with providing a cost-effective and easy-to-deploy solution for resellers and their customers."
