The Needle in a Haystack application uses artificial intelligence to monitor the System i and reports on suspected errors before problems arise.
Unbeaten Path International has introduced Needle in a Haystack, the first software to discover and report on serious data-entry mistakes within the IBM i and iSeries databases, the company announced today.
Needle in a Haystack uses artificial intelligence to learn which entries to the database are "normal," or expected. Whenever an entry occurs outside of the normal range, Needle sends an email alert to the database guardian in real time. If the entry is in fact an error, it can be easily corrected before it costs the company money or creates a problem. If it is not an error, the software can be instructed to ignore that type of entry if it should ever recur in the future. Needle in a Haystack gives managers real-time data accident alerts enabling them to stop invalid orders before they are launched, catch bad pricing before it's posted on the website, prevent customer credit embarrassments, and discover quality problems before they happen, according to the company.
"One of the unique advantages Needle in a Haystack offers is that it detects data mistakes that cannot be anticipated," says Milt Habeck, founder and managing partner of Unbeaten Path International.
When one considers the amount of data that is still today being entered manually, it becomes apparent, and understandable, why data entry mistakes occur. But most companies don't think they have an issue with data entry errors. Needle in a Haystack has made believers out of the companies that have used it, and the software has enabled them to prevent a data error from proliferating and causing further damage, reports Unbeaten Path.
According to Hadady Corp. Information Technology Manager Bill Parks, "Each day, Needle in a Haystack software lets us know many things we didn’t know prior to its installation," he says. "It also highlights the holes in our database security enabling us to take immediate corrective action where necessary. I can’t tell you how many hours have been saved by finding 'needles' in our database."
Unbeaten Path has provided niche software solutions and consulting services specifically for the iSeries for 20 years and the company has a focus on data security and data integrity. Needle in a Haystack is the culmination of a vision to enhance data integrity and address the problem of data mistakes before they cost companies money, cause them to lose customers, increase their liability, or even risk legal exposure.
