Police follow local fire department that had successful implementation with Kronos solution.
The Glendale (Calif.) Police Department has selected the TeleStaff public safety scheduling and notification solution from Kronos Inc. that is expected to enable the department to achieve greater efficiencies in scheduling and emergency recall. This will ultimately result in better control of labor costs and minimized compliance risk, officials believe.
TeleStaff has been utilized by the City of Glendale’s fire department for many years and has proven to be highly effective, according to the company. Glendale Police Department selected TeleStaff based on the success of the fire department’s use of the product.
Glendale police will use TeleStaff to completely automate and standardize the scheduling process for its 400 sworn and civilian personnel while adhering to staffing rules and bargaining agreements. The solution also will enable the department to conduct emergency recall quickly and easily and gain access to analytics to improve decision-making related to resource allocation and overtime usage.
TeleStaff will integrate with the city’s Oracle PeopleSoft payroll system, which will improve overtime management, enhance personnel accountability, reduce payroll and scheduling errors, expedite the payroll process, and minimize exposure to grievances, according to the company. With TeleStaff, the department will be able to eliminate paper-based manual processes and other basic stand-alone applications it has previously relied upon to complete officer staffing.
TeleStaff will enable officers to automatically respond to or sign up for work opportunities, access a personal calendar to view schedules and request leave. Managers will benefit from automatic roster generation, backfilling of shifts, and enhanced payroll preparation, the company said. An automated, standardized workforce management process will also require significantly less time to administer, and managers will have more time to focus on higher-value work.
