PDF versionPDF

At a glance

IBM Watson for Real World Evidence can help researchers, analysts, and data scientists to:

  • Accelerate the speed to insights through exploratory data analysis
  • Support business decisions
  • Answer business questions
  • Generate and test life sciences hypotheses

Overview

Watson™ for Real World Evidence is a cloud-based solution that allows you to explore, analyze, visualize, and share real world outcomes on healthcare data from proprietary datasets, such as those provided by IBM® Explorys® Therapeutic Datasets, which include de-identified clinical, financial, and operational data covering over 60 million unique patients as well as disparate data from payers, employers, and independent providers. Watson for Real World Evidence also provides similar capabilities with data from selected publicly available datasets.

Watson for Real World Evidence lets you perform all the previous tasks within a built-for-health cloud environment with a back-end infrastructure that is built to support the demands of big data analytics. Rather than dealing with the details of setting up this environment for yourself and handling the logistics of loading terabytes of data into a database every week, you can focus on the real task of data analysis and leave the data engineering work to Watson for Real World Evidence.

Key prerequisites

  • Internet connection
  • Supported operating system
  • One of the following browsers
    • Mozilla Firefox
    • Google Chrome

Overview

Watson Platform for Health GxP provides a health data platform as a service (PaaS) that life sciences, medical device companies, researchers, and others can use to create innovative solutions for their clients, while helping speed time to compliance.

Life sciences and medical device companies are under pressure to increase research and development (R&D) efficiency. At the same time, they must also focus on harnessing insights gleaned using advanced health analytics to competitively develop and position their drugs and devices in the marketplace.

  • Watson Platform for Health GxP offers a platform for digital health innovation

The platform is an environment for organizations to use big data and machine learning to create disease models and advanced therapeutic solutions throughout the phases of research, clinical trials, and commercialization.

Using the data platform, organizations can utilize tools and services to obscure identifiable health information, and share and combine it with a dynamic and growing aggregated base of their clinical research and social health data.

  • Designed for life sciences compliance

The platform for health was built under a quality management system (QMS) that meets FDA 21 CFR Part 820 guidelines, critical for organizations seeking a cloud service with data and product quality controls required for conducting clinical trials and developing medical devices. The platform is also Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA)-enabled to address security and privacy standards.

Statements of deprecation: Withdrawal of selected capabilities from IBM z™ /Transaction Processing Facility

PDF versionPDF

Overview

IBM makes the following statements of deprecation for function for z/Transaction Processing Facility (z/TPF) on the dates as specified in the following table:

Functional capabilitiesDeprecation date
GNU C Compiler Collection (GCC) 4.1 June 30, 2018
Service Data Objects (SDO) access to z/TPFDF June 30, 2018
z/TPF adapter for WebSphere® Operational Decision Management (WODM) June 30, 2018
Object signal event June 30, 2018
z/TPF Copy Services commands (ZXCFG and ZXCPY) June 30, 2018
Apache HTTP Server Version 1.3 June 30, 2018
z/TPF Mail Components -- POP and IMAP June 30, 2018
TPF Operations Server Luminex 3215 over ESCON June 30, 2018
TPF Operations Server DB2® Message Logging September 30, 2018

The following functional capabilities will be deprecated. Alternative options, if any, are identified:

  • GNU C Compiler Collection (GCC) 4.1

Currently, z/TPF supports both the GCC compilers 4.1 and 4.6. Clients are required to move to GCC 4.6 as new z/TPF capabilities, such as MongoDB, can only be compiled with GCC 4.6. Support for GCC 4.1 will be discontinued on June 30, 2018. z/TPF Object Code Only (OCO) code created after June 30, 2018, will be compiled with GCC 4.6. To receive compiler or C/C++ language support, client applications must be built by using GCC 4.6 or another compiler supported by z/TPF.

  • Service Data Objects (SDO) access to z/TPFDF

Java™ application programs that run on an application server or workstation can access and update z/TPFDF databases by using a combination of the z/TPFDF data access service (DAS) APIs and the Service Data Objects (SDO) specification APIs. However, implementations of SDO and DAS were retired by open source projects, such as Apache Tuscany. z/TPF DAS will be deprecated and support will be discontinued on June 30, 2018. An alternative is to use z/TPF support for MongoDB, which provides similar capability using an interface that is actively supported in the industry.

  • z/TPF adapter for Websphere Operational Decision Management (WODM)

This support provides a set of tools and descriptor files to enable development of a rules application that run on an application server or workstation to be called from a z/TPF C/C++ application by using a C function call -- tpf ilrExecuteRule(). The z/TPF adapter, which is associated tooling and descriptor files, will be deprecated and support will be discontinued on June 30, 2018. The alternatives are:

    • Run a rules engine implemented in Java that runs on z/TPF and call it by using tpf srvcInvoke().
    • Call out to a rules engine off of z/TPF.
  • Object signal event

A signal event specification file can define data in the event by using or elements, which are part of a Data Model Descriptor. There are many ways to describe the data used by z/TPF signal events. The Data Model Descriptor is one way and will be deprecated as part of the z/TPF adapter for WebSphere Operational Data Management (WODM). The alternative is to use the element in the event specification, which uses Data Format Description Language (DFDL) to describe the data.

  • z/TPF Copy Services commands (ZXCFG and ZXCPY)

The ZXCFG and ZXCPY commands are used to manage and control DASD copy services from z/TPF. Becasue these commands do not support the most recent copy services types, this function will be deprecated and support will be discontinued on June 30, 2018. The alternative is IBM Copy Services Manager. For additional information on Copy Services Manager, see the IBM Support Portal or Software Announcement 217-228, dated July 11, 2017.

  • Apache HTTP Server Version 1.3

Support for Apache HTTP Server Version 1.3 will be deprecated on June 30, 2018. The alternative is Apache HTTP Server Version 2.2.9, or the z/TPF HTTP server. For additional information on the Apache HTTP Server, see the IBM Support website.

  • z/TPF Mail Components: POP and IMAP

POP and IMAP components are only used when z/TPF is hosting an email server, of which none of the z/TPF clients have implemented. This function will be deprecated and support will be discontinued on June 30, 2018.

  • TPF Operations Server Luminex 3215 over ESCON

Deprecation and support for the use of the Luminex 3215 card on the TPF Operations Server hardware platform will be on June 30, 2018. The alternative is to use the OSA-ICC 3215 card.

  • TPF Operations Server DB2 Message Logging

This capability will be deprecated and support will be discontinued on September 30, 2018. The alternative is to use TPF Operations Server flat file logging for z/TPF messages - LOG2FILE.

  • SOAP Web Services

This function is not being deprecated, but all new Web Services functionality on z/TPF will be added to Representational state transfer (REST) on z/TPF.
