Adds new sessions on SQL, analytics and data integration
System i Developer today announces its first RPG & DB2 Summit in Charlotte, NC, March 26-28, 2019 at the Hilton Charlotte University Place. The conference will feature a new Db2 for i track updated with additional SQL and modernization techniques, practical skills for IBM i-based queries and analytics, and data integration options.
These changes enhance the mission of refining modern skills at the RPG & DB2 Summit, which received strong feedback from a variety of October 2018 attendees.
First-timer Andy Gabriel was amazed by the effectiveness of the training. "I wish I had attended years ago,” he said. “The amount of good technical information was astounding."
His enthusiasm was shared by Sr. Software Engineer Rick Krause, who found IBM i’s modern capabilities inspiring. "After years of being told the i is a legacy platform, I came away from the Summit energized and excited about continuing to work on the IBM i indefinitely."
Dino Mancinelli, an application development manager, has attended the Summit five times. He counts on the Summit to keep his skills honed. “Every time I come to the Summit it’s fresh. I learn new things as well as brush up on techniques I should know like the back of my hand."
Notable education highlights returning from October include many new sessions on SQL, RPG, RDi, ILE, Python, open source languages and tools; an open source roundtable; an Open Source Squad offering individual help installing and using open source; and pre-conference hands-on workshops on RDi, SQL, Python and Service Programs.
“We’ve seen an increase in the number of non-traditional IBM i developers attending the Summit,” says System i Developer partner Susan Gantner. “Often they are training to take over for a senior programmer/analyst who is about to retire. Others have open source backgrounds or work on other teams and need cross-training. Some are database engineers.”
As a .NET developer, Jeremiah Smith came to the RPG & DB2 Summit to learn more about the IBM i platform. “This is exactly what I needed to start working in an RPG world," he reported.
At the October 2018 Summit, Application Manager Don Griffin found clarity on next steps with RDi, RPG, and node.js. He also realized the importance of having his .NET developers learn Db2 for i to make their query techniques more efficient. “I left refreshed and recharged, with lots of ideas and things to try."
Online registration for the RPG & DB2 Summit can be accessed via the System i Developer website. The early bird registration rate of $1,295 is in effect through February 15, 2019. RPG & DB2 Summit alumni and their colleagues receive a $100 discount when they register using their alumni ID.
Discounts for groups of three or more are also available.
