Organizers see economy as presenting opportunity for IBM i developers to undertake widespread modernization initiatives.
System i Developer announced today that the next RPG & DB2 Summit will take place March 26-28, 2012, at the Sheraton Fort Worth Hotel and Spa in Fort Worth, TX. With a conference theme of "i can, can you?" the curriculum features practical training on IBM i-based modernization skills of all levels for every aspect of the modernization process, from moving to modular architecture to leveraging languages such as SQL and PHP to enabling mobile access to IBM i applications.
According to System i Developer partner, Jon Paris, IBM i development professionals need to prepare themselves to run with projects on short notice.
“The uncertainties of today's economy have forced many companies to rethink their more ambitious modernization projects,” recalls Jon Paris. “This has given IBM i professionals a window of opportunity, a chance to demonstrate their relevance to the organization by rapidly modernizing the rock solid applications they already have. But they need to be able to react quickly. In this environment, it’s particularly important for RPGers and their management to have mastered modular architecture techniques and be up-to-date on UI and database options so they can move forward efficiently and decisively. Appropriate adoption of open source solutions also plays a major role.”
RPG & DB2 Summit roadmaps help attendees identify the most appropriate sessions for their needs and skill level. The Summit’s newest roadmap topic, “RPG on the Move: Mobilizing Your Apps,” complements other roadmaps, which include using SQL with DB2 and RPG, Web programming, Web services, ILE and modular programming, modern development tools, optimizing database and SQL performance, and more.
Optional half-day "Headstart" seminars on Sunday, March 25, will provide attendees with intensive concentration on four different topics prior to the core conference. Headstart seminar titles include: Foundations in SQL for i, Getting Started with PHP on IBM i, Web Services for RPGers, and Stored Procedures, Functions and Triggers.
Instructors for the RPG & DB2 Summit include Jon Paris, Susan Gantner, Jon Paris, Skip Marchesani, Scott Klement, Kent Milligan, Mike Cain, Barbara Morris, Mike Pavlak and Aaron Bartell.
Early registration pricing of $1,095 extends through February 10, 2012, and then moves to the standard rate of $1,395. Headstart seminars are priced at $215 for one, or $295 for two. Past RPG & DB2 Summit attendees and their colleagues may take advantage of special alumni registration rates.
