Users will get hands-on Wings training using PCs and an actual RPG application.
The first two U.S. cities in ASNA's free hands-on 2012 Wings workshops—"No Stinkin' Screen Scrapers Here" tour will be in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, and Las Vegas, Nevada, on February 9 and 24, respectively, the company has announced.
The workshops are a natural follow-on to ASNA's earlier tour of half-day Wings presentations around the country. While well received, those presentations generated user feedback that attendees want to "touch and use Wings," which is what they will get to do at the upcoming workshops, according to ASNA.
IBM i shops have universally told the company that screen scrapers just don't do the job. They need something better. That better "something" is ASNA Wings, says the company. Wings is a revolutionary new product that modernizes System i RPG character-based user interfaces and is a member of the ASNA Monarch family of RPG modernization products. Using IBM's Open Access RPG Edition, all RPG programming logic and file IO remains on the IBM i. ASNA Wings converts green screens into browser-based replacements.
Hosted individually by ASNA's Tim Jannsen and Roger Pence, the Wings hands-on workshops will not be your typical PowerPoint seminars with a donut and a cup of coffee, the company says. Rather, the sessions will provide PCs for attendees to use. People will work right along with the instructor as they learn how to use ASNA Wings to modernize an RPG application. Attendees will see how to use ASNA Wings hands-on, in a live setting, with an actual RPG application running on an IBM i.
The ASNA Wings workshops are free and include lunch as well as a fun door prize. To accommodate potential traffic bottlenecks, the company will begin at 9:30 a.m. and it will finish no later than 3:30 p.m. to help attendees avoid rush-hour traffic.
ASNA believes that the hands-on experience people will acquire at in the workshop will quickly prove to attendees that Wings is the "fastest and best way" to add new life and value to users' RPG application portfolio. Sessions will cover:
- The basics of IBM's Open Access
- A quick introduction to Microsoft's Visual Studio
- How to use Wings to import and create browser-based alternatives to your green screen display files
- Powerful ways to further enhance the user experience in your Wings pages
In addition to the planned agenda, there will be plenty of time for questions and answers.
