NGS-IQ is New Generation Software's flagship query, reporting, and business intelligence suite for companies that need to move beyond Query/400 and other basic IBM i query tools.

NGS-IQ is an enterprise performance management, reporting, and analytics suite for IBM i on Power Systems. It provides powerful query development for both IT professionals and power users and supports a GUI interface for developing queries from Windows and Web browsers.  Reports can be designed with a drag-and-drop, point-and-click GUI builder, and data can be output to interactive dashboards, Web presentations, and smartphones.

Developer's Take

"It's exciting to show our customers and business partners how easy it is to connect their IBM i to the Web and quickly give employees, customers, vendors, and others the ability to query their data. Some have considered doing this but thought it would be difficult and time-consuming.

—John O'Sullivan, NGS vice president of technology

Functions

The modular NGS-IQ solution spans ad hoc query, production, and Web reporting; online analytical processing (OLAP); business performance dashboards; summary-to-detail drill-down; native access to DB2 on i; and remote real-time access to SQL Server, MySQL, Oracle, PostgreSQL, and other data sources. Users can output distribution by email and FTP. It supports meta data, includes change management tools, provides auditing, and ensures security. NGS offers packaged analytical templates for customer, sales, inventory, financial reporting, and healthcare. NGS-IQ's Web reporting and dashboard development features are used to quickly modernize legacy reports and bring information to secure Web pages and smartphones. Licensing is flexible and includes the complete integrated suite or modules for specific needs.

Features

NGS-IQ is a Windows, Web, and 5250 query development solution capable of running Query/400 queries with output to Excel, Access, Word, a PC printer, or Windows display. Users can run queries from Web pages, portals, or smartphones. The solution offers comprehensive HTML report formatting, on-demand drill-down on summary values in Web reports, and output to HTML, XML, PDF, or OLAP.  It supports conditional (if-then) field calculations, runtime prompting for field calculation logic, and record selection criteria. Query results can be distributed by email and/or FTP. Other solution features include dashboard development, field- and record-level security, integration with third-party encryption software, and transfer of data to DB2 for i5/OS from other environments. The Web interface lets users run queries and view output over the Web. The Web design environment is drag-and-drop.
