The new version allows different environments to have unique time-zone setups.

Quadrant Software, a leading provider of paperless process management solutions for the IBM i (System i, iSeries 400) and Windows enterprises, has announced the release of V4.7.6 of its FastFax enterprise faxing software. Quadrant Software's FastFax delivers the ability to send, receive, route, and manage mission-critical documents from within familiar business applications and/or email clients. Both user-friendly and completely secure, it provides centralized systems management that reduces the total cost of ownership (TCO) while improving user productivity, the company says. FastFax V4.7.6 builds on the solid foundation of previous versions, adding capabilities to help companies of all sizes process their documents more efficiently, the company says.

Following is a list of the latest enhancements in the latest version:

Support for Multiple Time Zones

FastFax is used for inbound and outbound document distribution via fax and email by companies of all sizes and in many locations. For those organizations that have to communicate across time zones (nationally and internationally), FastFax now has support for setting up different time zones in each of its environments.

The FastFax server can be setup with multiple environments so that each can represent a division, department, group or simply another physical location. Such environments have their own users and rules for sending and receiving faxes but until now they were bound by the same time stamp setup on the server. So if an environment was configured to work for the Belgium branch while another for the U.S. location, faxes would go out to either country using the same time stamp. If faxes were prioritized to go out at night in the U.S., all faxes (including the ones for Belgium) would go out at the same time, so while the U.S. faxes were sent at night, the Belgium faxes were going out in the morning due to time zone differences.

The new version solves this problem by enabling the use of multiple time zones so that each environment can have its own time zone setup. If an environment is setup for Belgium, for example, while another is setup for the US, faxes originating from the Belgium environment will be sent according to that environment's time zone and will be time-stamped with Belgium's local time while faxes sent from the US environment will be time-stamped with the local US time.

This gives companies better control over their document transmission costs and allows for customized communication across time zones.

Support for MS Windows 7

Release 4.7.6 now supports MS Windows 7 as a client. Companies upgrading to Microsoft's latest operating system will be able to continue using FastFax without problem.

Support for MS Windows Server 2008

Release 4.7.6 now supports MS Windows Server 2008 R2 as a file server environment. Companies upgrading to Microsoft's latest server operating system can continue using FastFax without problem.

Support for Latest Brooktrout Fax Boards

The new release of FastFax is also compatible with the latest release 6.1 of Dialogic's Brooktrout T1034 fax board. Brooktrout fax boards are the most commonly used for high-volume enterprise faxing transmissions.

Enhanced SNDFAX Command

FastFax provides users with a rich library of API's that can be used to embed spool files with commands that automate the sending of documents via fax and email. The SNDFAX command has been enhanced to now support FastFax Nicknames, i.e. Phonebook nicknames. The use of Nicknames in FastFax Phonebooks allows users to easily configure fax and email options by using an easier and shorter recipient name. With the new enhancement, the SNDFAX command now supports the use of nicknames, allowing for easier configuration of auto-faxing and emailing options for iSeries spool files.

FastFax 4.7.6 is available immediately. It requires IBM i V5R2 or later and is fully compatible with IBM i V6R1.

FastFax customers on previous releases will gain significant advantages when upgrading to the latest 4.7.6 release. The upgrade is free for customers currently enrolled in the maintenance program.
