SkyView Partners today announced a Security Administrators Guide for the IBM i platform. The new e-book based on the experience of Carol Woodbury and her work with clients during the last 12 years at SkyView Partners Inc., defines the role of security administrator including the values for key security settings, why they should be set as such and how often they should be checked.
"Given the spotlight on security recently whether it's the $45 million ATM heist or the case of Eric Snowden and the NSA, both of which can be traced to a root cause of "too much access to data", it's clear that security needs to become a discipline and not just another item on the System Admins' list of things to do," explains Carol Woodbury, President of SkyView Partners Inc. "IBM's emphasis on 'Big Data' means a higher concentration of information on platforms like the IBM i. With that concentration of information comes the responsibility of securing that data. Security Administration can no longer be lost in the list of things that a system administrator is supposed to do on a regular basis. Disciplined security administration is as much a part of defending data assets as deploying access control solutions. The role needs to be defined and the tasks and timings described in detail. This book is a 'quick read' intended to get to the heart of the matter, giving very specific guidance and help to companies so that security is properly addressed on the platform."
"This guide is full of practical and logical advice that is current and relevant for the IBM i. It is a valuable reference component for logical access security deployment," noted Herb Hill, Senior Manager of Information Security Services at a major Canadian financial institution.
"This guide armed me with the information I needed to be assertive with vendors and keep our systems more secure," said Brian Hole, CISSP with Les Schwab Tire. "It provided sound security theory and IBM i 'practical application' all wrapped up in one place."
The IBM i Security Administrators Guide is available online through SkyView Partners Inc. as of August 20, 2013.
