Native IBM i Web services adapter simplifies tokenization of sensitive data and helps reduce the scope of costly audits.
nuBridges announced at COMMON that it has enhanced its support for IBM i-reliant organizations to further simplify adoption and implementation of tokenization as a data-centric information security strategy. nuBridges Protect, the company's award-winning encryption, tokenization and key management solution, now offers a native IBM i adapter to handle Web services-based communication with nuBridges Protect Token Manager, which runs on distributed platforms. This allows enterprises to reduce the risk of a security breach on for IBM i applications that use confidential and sensitive information, and take IBM i systems out of scope for Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS) compliance and audits.
Tokenization is an emerging data security model that substitutes meaningless surrogate values—tokens—for sensitive and confidential information. It can be used alone or to augment strong encryption to help companies comply with industry data security mandates and privacy laws. The nuBridges Protect Adapter for IBM i enables companies to extend tokenization to IBM i applications without Web services programming in order to protect inbound sensitive data in applications such as online shopping carts, order management, billing systems, and payroll.
“We recognized the challenges many heterogeneous organizations are facing in leveraging tokenization on their business-critical IBM i systems,” says Gary Palgon, nuBridges vice president of Product Management. “There are a lot of moving parts when it comes to taking advantage of Web services on the IBM i. We developed the nuBridges Protect Adapter for IBM i to simplify Web services calls for tokenization so that companies can reduce risk and PCI DSS audit scope throughout their enterprises more easily.”
The nuBridges Protect Adapter for IBM i handles all of the front-end Web services communications between IBM i applications and nuBridges Protect Token Manager for all Token Manager functions; and exposes back-end callable RPG, Cobol and C APIs so it is easy for IT to connect IBM i applications to the adapter via familiar technologies.
nuBridges Protect for IBM i enables rapid tokenization adoption by:
- Simplifying tokenization calls to and from IBM i;
- Speeding up integration of IBM i applications with nuBridges Protect Token Manager;
- Enabling COBOL and RPG calling of tokenization services to remove the dependency on SOAP and XML knowledge;
- Taking advantage of native IBM i capabilities (e.g., logging, user authority); and
- Simplifying software installation.
nuBridges has also added support for alternate character sets to make it easier for the global enterprises to implement nuBridges Protect for data security.
nuBridges Protect Token Manager is part of nuBridges Protect, the industry’s first data security software solution to combine a new variation of tokenization—Format Preserving Tokenization—with strong local encryption, centralized encryption key management and logging in one platform-agnostic package. nuBridges Protect is designed for organizations that need to protect payment card numbers as well as volumes of personally identifiable information (PII) and personal health information (PHI) from theft and accidental loss, while reducing complexity and simplifying compliance management for data security standards and privacy laws.
