Bytware, a division of Help/Systems, announced an update to StandGuard Anti-Virus powered by McAfee, its long-trusted native anti-virus solution for IBM Power Systems running IBM i.
The update incorporates the latest scanning technology, which provides comprehensive protection against today’s threats as well as those that may arise tomorrow. Through the continuous monitoring and updating of McAfee Labs, StandGuard Anti-Virus protects businesses from known threats as they are discovered. It also protects against unknown threats by utilizing heuristic scanning to identify virus-like attributes in files.
While IBM i is one of the most difficult platforms for viruses and malicious code to infiltrate, it is also the perfect host for such threats. Because IBM i may be viewed as immune, it often goes overlooked in anti-virus protection and serves as the perfect base from which viruses can attack the larger corporate network.
The growing threat was highlighted in March of this year when the worm W32/Autorun.worm.aaeh was discovered hiding on IBM i-based systems where it was creating new files, inserting malicious code, and giving these files the same names as existing ones. These infected files then spread to PCs across the network.
This update to StandGuard Anti-Virus helps managers of IBM Power Systems combat these threats by providing McAfee’s latest advanced heuristic analysis in a tool designed specifically to run as a native application on IBM’s premiere hardware for business. The McAfee 5600 Scanning Engine and DATs deliver enhanced Adobe PDF and Microsoft Office scanning to improve exploit detection, enhancements to Multipurpose Internet Mail Extensions (MIME) scanning, and faster performance for initialization, updating, and scanning.
Protecting all systems within a network is a mandate of regulatory compliance, and that includes IBM Power Systems running IBM i. Bytware’s StandGuard Anti-Virus has been helping IT managers protect these systems for more than a decade, and the latest update—with the help of McAfee—puts more protective power than ever in the hands of corporate IT security.
