YCD, a pioneer in on-site digital ambient solutions, has successfully completed validation of its RadioPoint content distribution platform on IBM Store Integration Framework. The framework is IBMÆs flexible and scalable Java 2 Platform Enterprise Edition (J2EE) operating environment and componentized architecture built for retail stores using industry-leading IBM middleware.
The Ready for IBM Retail Store InnovationsùStore Integration Framework initiative brings together platform-independent software vendors that deliver proven solutions designed and built for the retail industry. Through this initiative, IBM works with select IBM Business Partners to validate solutions that meet a rigorous assessment of next-generation, open-standards-based store environments.
RadioPoint is a state-of-the-art management platform for the distribution and control of digital media content and remote media players. The platform is targeted for the retail, leisure, entertainment, and hospitality markets, where controlling audio and video of multiple zones or locations from a central point is essential.
A leading designer fashion shop has long been savvy to the powerful effect of music and video in reinforcing its brand image and creating the right atmosphere for its customers. For several years, each new collection was supported by music programming, consistently played in each of its stores.
Before the company implemented the YCD solution, it used simple CDs, which were express-mailed to each of its 75 stores across Europe. While this process enabled them to reinforce their collections, it severely limited the company's ability to dynamically modify or replace content.
By upgrading to YCD, the designer obtained full centralized and remote management capabilities. YCD made it exceptionally easy to add and change playlists, update programming and create special atmospheres to suit the relevant collection, season, event or time of day.
RadioPoint supports distribution of digital content such as audio, video, images, and messaging to thousands of locations. It utilizes the Internet to deliver new content and to enable easy customization and full personalization of each and every remote media player. RadioPoint is a scalable, open platform, powered by IBM's middleware products WebSphere Application Server and WebSphere MQ.
"We are very proud to join the list of companies who have gained IBM SIF validation," said Guy Shavitt, vice president of research and development at YCD. "We strongly support the foundations of Store Integration Framework, building scalable solutions that are based on open-standards. YCD is committed to provide flexible, integrated solutions that are based on widely adopted, proven standards. We are extremely excited about the opportunity of working together with IBM on solutions for the retail market."
