Surround Technologies announces the general availability of version 4.0 of its Accelerator™ for .NET software development platform, a premier productivity solution for the development and use of .NET applications.

The Accelerator for .NET generates complete systems for Windows, Windows Azure IBM i and IBM z. It allows businesses to enhance user experience while leveraging the power of their existing systems. The Accelerator provides a roadmap to develop applications and integrate new technology and advanced capabilities without limitations, lock in or dead ends.

The Accelerator for .NET is a base set of functionality, core structured architecture and wizard-driven code generation, which allows for business solutions to be developed faster, to better standards, and with more functionality than otherwise possible. It opens the full power of .NET for developers, and empowers software developers to efficiently build enterprise quality software specific to business needs.

Accelerator™ for .NET Version 4.0 adds significant improvements to the Web and Mobile User Experiences, even more automation to the generation wizards and other productivity features across the entire solution. Version 4.0 new features include:

ASP.NET MVC HTML5 UX Generation – Expand your systems beyond Windows and IBM i.  With its latest version Accelerator brings with it the ability to generate complete HTML5 applications optimized for browsers, tablets and mobile phones alike.  The features users have come to rely on in the Windows, WPF version of Accelerator are now available on your favorite devices or browsers.  Module content areas and sub-browsers are easily navigated with the sleek user friendly UI.  Favorites and recently viewed modules are conveniently located on a top row with one-click access to your most used modules. Command bars can be shared between WPF and HTML or set individually for each. Add or use your Shared Folders, Personal Folder, History, or Attachments like you would on your windows application.  All history and folders are cross platform compatible, so users can begin work on the Windows, and move over to a tablet and all their preferences can go with them.  Share views between Windows and Web and mobile. Total system integration means a seamless workflow between all versions of the Accelerator with everything you need as mobile as you are and ready to go!

Generation Wizard Improvements Generation continues to become more intuitive and more efficient with each new version to the Accelerator for .NET wizard, and this release does not disappoint.  An improved module relationship UX employs a studio like environment for building relationships within the generation wizard.  Easily navigate and create relationships between your modules and save progress automatically along the way in case you need to stop and come back later.  Support for joining fields from other files has also been added to the generation wizard to allow users the ability to expand on the range of data they use and present within their generated applications. Additional support has been developed for organizations with a large number of tables in their database or physical files in their IBM I Library..  New search and filtering for files within the generation wizard have been implemented allowing users to quickly find and sort for the files they want to use in their systems. The new search and filter function can sift within the files and find exactly the data you are seeking within the file guaranteeing you select the files you want.  Lastly, as with all improvements, bug and speed improvements have been made to the generation wizard to accelerate your acceleration even further.  Surround Technologies continues its mission to provide the most efficient product possible to its users and speed is always on our radar.

Accelerator Maintenance Improvements – A new maintenance UX brings with it new navigation and more viewable screen real estate to perform tasks.  A new slick black theme is welcoming and modern, and brings a sense of style and sleekness to the application.  The new UX lists a single row controlling the entire applications navigation with access to favorites and recently used modules within a single click.  At login users are greeted with a customer navigation catered specifically to their day to day needs so getting to the most used modules is faster than ever.  Added abilities to easily sequence command bars and commands, and also view and view columns creates even more customization for the presentation of data in all user modules.  Simplified maintenance of different modules types increases efficiency of maintaining your systems and stream lines processes even further to decrease time-to-task within the maintenance system.  Version 4.0 also brings with it a new system tree view display for incorporating multiple levels of data in a single list.  Retrieve data from across multiple data file sources and display it to the user in a single control that lets the user dive down further with a single click.  Lastly, a new delete dialogue for Systems, Applications and Modules allows you to choose multiple options as to what you wish to delete as opposed to a single item at a time.  And as with all improvements, bug and speed improvements have been made to the maintenance application to provide the best user experience possible using best practices and industry standards.

Windows UX Tab Support – Multitasking at its best!  Version 4.0 welcomes the introduction of tabbed browsing.  Open multiple modules across multiple tabs to work more efficiently, compare data across modules, or perform more than one task at a time.  The system will remember open tabs upon login so when the user returns their workspace is ready to go.  Tabs may also be renamed to offer further customization to users if they wish to setup a workspace that is more efficient for them.  Pinning tabs allows users to retain tabs in a group at the beginning of the tab area and the ability to save the pinned tabs content.  Upon returning to the pinned tab the users search, filter, view and additional settings dependent on the module will be exactly as they last left them.  The tab feature in 4.0 was designed from the ground up to provide the most customized experience possible for users of any skill set.

System Shutdown and Lockout – Accelerator System Shutdown and Lockout allows for the system to be taken offline. When doing so the option is provided to give a warning with a countdown to all online users before a forceful system shutdown. Users are provided a message while attempting to log into an offline system. Many servers go down for nightly or weekly maintenance or backups. This feature allows for a 'friendly' message as to why the system is down. It also provides a countdown before gracefully shutting down, as opposed to simply dropping the connection abruptly.

Versioning – Multiple versions of the Accelerator can now be installed on a developer's PC.  This allows a developer to decide what systems will be upgraded to the newer version.  Older systems that are in production can be maintained with its current version of the Accelerator, while new systems can use the latest and greatest version.  The Accelerator has a referencing tool that allows you to quickly change the runtime version of core DLL’s that a system will use.  A System can be easily upgraded or downgraded to different installed Accelerator versions.

Accelerator for .NET Version 4.0 redefines the environment in which users can perform their work and the workspace that they can create for themselves.  It expands an ever-growing list of features created to develop new and modernize legacy systems.  The Accelerator allows for a range of options, from reusing code in the background while building a rich user interface, to completely rebuilding systems, andeverything in between.
