Software AG: webMethods 9.5 Launched at Innovation World 2013
Software AG announced the launch of the next version of the market-leading webMethods 9.5 platform at its annual Innovation World user's conference in San Francisco. The focus at this year's Innovation World is on how to maximize the new business opportunities and competitive advantages provided by the increasing digitization of the business world and the public sector. webMethods 9.5 is another significant step in combing cloud, mobile and social technologies with automated business processes and the agility needed to fully utilize the Digital Enterprise.
This release delivers three new major capabilities as well as a series of enhancements across the webMethods Suite. The new features in webMethods 9.5 include:
- Elastic ESB: FFor the first time customers can dynamically scale their implementations into private and public clouds. This allows customers to handle peak demands and quickly bring on new capacity without downtime or manual intervention.
- Social BPM: The webMethods BPMS solution now provides guidance tools to help users be more effective and efficient in managing and completing tasks. With Social BPM, tasks can be tagged to facilitate the identification of expertise resources so that work can be routed to the best expert available. This improves the efficiency in the delegation of task assignments.
- Mobile BPM: Users can now remotely monitor in-progress processes using a pre-built mobile business process monitoring application that is available for download in the Apple App Store and Google Play. Aggregated views of process instances give instant insight into stalled or failed processes, providing the ability to graphically visualize the failure step to identify and respond to problems in real time.
"Disruptive trends such as cloud, mobile and social continue to drive organizations' expectations for interacting with projects and applications," said Wolfram Jost, CTO at Software AG. "By extending the mobile, cloud and alignment capabilities of our solutions, we greatly improve how quickly and effectively customers can respond to their market needs".
In addition webMethods 9.5 provides many enhancements to the webMethods Suite, including:
- Updates to the Model-to-Execute functionality and methodology, which automates the alignment of business process analysis with automated system- and task-based business processes.
- Stage & Milestone Support: Business executives and process owners can now get high-level visibility into their process status and separate the signal from the noise. With this visibility they can quickly understand whether SLAs have been reached or breached across the key milestones that constitute their business process.
- Enhanced Upgradability provides superior user experience and peace of mind when migrating from prior webMethods releases. This reduces the overall effort for businesses looking to migrate to the newversion

Software AG Announces the First Public Cloud Offering for IT Portfolio Management - Portfolios Live
Software AG announced the availability of Portfolios Live at its global user's conference Innovation World 2013 in San Francisco. Portfolios Live is a new cloud-based service that provides CIOs the ability to manage and transform IT landscapes based on comprehensive and accurate budget, regulatory, legal and technical information. Portfolios Live offers a set of pre-configured solutions for specific tasks that enterprise architects and portfolio managers manage on a day-to-day basis. This new solution combines best practices and guidance to collect, connect and assess available IT assets and support both the IT and business decision making needed to transform an organization into a Digital Enterprise.
Portfolios Live offers CIOs precise and transparent management of their IT landscapes and is part of Software AG Live - a Platform-as-a-Service suite that also includes process design, agile application development and application integration.
Portfolios Live provides the transparency required for comprehensive and accurate IT planning. It equips portfolio owners to gather and maintain high quality data concerning their full application landscape. Based on this, it provides step-by-step guidance and ultimately the visualization and reports that make the basis and justification for IT investment decisions apparent. It identifies candidates for consolidation or transition into the cloud, assesses the cost structure of the application portfolio, the underlying technological risk and contractual obligations.
For the first time, organizations have a ready-to-use infrastructure to collect their IT data, without upfront investment or installation bottlenecks, and have it connected and assessed in pre-configured portfolio views that are readily applicable to their businesses.
"Identifying the cost and strategic business support of your IT assets is a fundamental first step on the road to the Digital Enterprise", said Software AG CTO Wolfram Jost. "Having this service available in the cloud enables organizations to start well informed IT planning at a project level and scale up on demand."
Enterprises must increasingly address new business opportunities through information technology against a background of flat IT budgets. Therefore a closer assessment of the costs of maintaining IT systems can free budget for new, innovative solutions. But freeing budget without impacting the operational business requires transparency. Research by IDG, among financial IT investment decision makers, shows that almost 60 percent of financial decision makers cannot oversee the impact of IT budget cuts on business performance and risk exposure. Boston based Nucleus Research , which specialize in ROI studies, found that most organizations are struggling to have reliable data at hand when it comes to their digital assets. The study shows that enterprise IT decision makers have to rely on information that is, on average, 14 months old and is only 55 percent accurate.
Portfolios Live is part of Software AG Live a cloud-based Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) suite. It addresses today's business needs with unmatched speed, ease-of-use and full support for social and mobile collaboration. Subject matter experts and IT professionals alike across organizations can design and develop agile applications while easily integrating existing systems.
