Company releases Rocket Aldon Lifecycle Manager 6.2, Rocket Aldon Web Portal 1.2, Rocket Aldon Report Manager 1.6, and Rocket Folio 4.8

Rocket Software has announced the availability of three new change management products: Rocket Aldon Lifecycle Manager (Enterprise Edition) 6.2 for the IBM i platform, Rocket Aldon Web Portal 1.2, and Rocket Aldon Report Manager 1.6. These new releases are the latest additions to the suite of software change management solutions that help organizations manage and automate the application lifecycle process. Rocket also announced availability of Rocket Folio 4.8 with several improvements including PDF integration.

Aldon Lifecycle Manager (LMe) 6.2, which includes Aldon Security Server 2.1, adds build support that automates the process of importing and deploying build results at any stage of the lifecycle process. This release provides additional support for developers using Subversion (SVN) for version control. Lifecycle Manager can now automatically synchronize its promotion and deployment repository with Subversion anytime developers commit a change to their Subversion repository. LMe 6.2 also provides additional native Microsoft Windows support, allowing Windows users to perform Lifecycle Manager functions directly from Microsoft Windows Explorer.

The new IBM i version of the Aldon Web Portal for LMe lets users track all software deployments from any browser or Web-enabled mobile device. Web Portal can be installed on an IBM i server, and offers new deployment and installation reports. Dan Magid, managing director of Product Management, says, “In this age of BYOD, customers demand access to information from their smartphones and tablets and they want to have the ability to take action from anywhere at any time. Our newest release gives them this capability to do so with a tap of a finger.”

Aldon Report Manager 1.6 adds two new permission reports for Rocket Aldon Lifecycle Manager (IBM i Edition). The "Permissions by Release" report gives details for actions a user can perform for a release, along with the source from which authorities are derived. "Permissions by User" provides details for the authority records that exist for a user and actions that may be performed. These additional reports strengthen the availability of data necessary to help with audit compliance.

Rocket Software Releases Rocket Folio 4.8

Meanwhile Rocket Software has also announced the availability of Rocket Folio 4.8, which provides several improvements, including PDF integration. Folio 4.8 enables users to leverage Folio’s powerful search engine technology to search across PDF documents; combine all PDF, Microsoft Word, and other files into a single, searchable library; and view and search specific sections of large, unwieldy, PDFs. Folio 4.8’s PDF Integration features allow PDF documents to be displayed in their native format and in-line with other Folio Infobase content. Native PDF support reduces or eliminates costly document conversion, display formatting, and markup tasks.

According to Gary Mumford, managing director of Sales, Channels and R&D at Rocket Software, "Incorporating rich support for PDF content is a major product milestone for Folio. We are proud to introduce a paradigm shift from a record-based model to a hybrid model consisting of both documents and records. For the first time ever, documents can be searched and displayed in their native format within Folio Views."

Key features in the latest release include:

  • PDF Integration
    • Native PDF Support: Import and display PDF documents in their native format, including in-line, along with the rest of your Infobase content.
    • PDF TOC Integration: Integrate hierarchies defined within PDF documents into Folio's Table of Contents, including the ability to restrict searches to specific branches within a PDF.
    • PDF Index Control: Control whether or not PDF documents are searched by default.
    • PDF Hit-Highlighting: See your query results highlighted directly within the native PDF view.
    • Records with Hits: Create virtual views of paragraphs within PDF documents by viewing only records with hits or by viewing only checked branches.
    • New Search Features: Search across all imported PDF documents using the newly added "[Object:]" search syntax.
  • Platform Compatibility: Improved compatibility with Windows Vista, Windows 7, and Windows Server 2008.

  • Improved RTF Import/Export Filter: Enhanced style and formatting preservation.
  • Additional Document Support: Added support for Microsoft Word 2010 documents.
  • Improved User Experience: Improved search results, stability and user interface.
