LANSA announced the general availability of LANSA DQ Inspector. Available free from the Apple App Store, DQ Inspector automates the recording of physical attributes associated with the inspection of consumer products. The App helps to improve product data quality and assist with the implementation of a Data Quality Management System (DQMS).

Today, the process of physical product inspection and assessment against GS1 standards can be cumbersome and require extensive knowledge of the GS1 System.  The procedure is also labor intensive and fraught with the risk of introducing new errors through manual data entry.

DQ Inspector is a Data Capture App, built for iPhone, iPad and iPad Mini devices. It is the first of its kind and revolutionizes the Product Inspection process performed in conjunction with the GS1 Data Quality Framework (DQF). This automated data capture application eliminates many manual steps involved in recording physical attributes associated with the inspection of consumer goods. Using Wireless devices that connect directly to the mobile app via Bluetooth, users carry out physical inspections, recording weights and dimensions without hand-keying data or writing on paper.

“At GS1, our vision is a world where things and related information move efficiently and securely for the benefit of businesses and improvement of people's lives, every day, everywhere. Four pillars, of which data quality is one, support this vision over the next decade. Making a tool like LANSA’s DQ Inspector available to our members will directly contribute to our data quality goals and we are thrilled to see such innovation coming from one of our certified Solution Partners.” said Mark Widman, Director of GDSN & Data Quality at GS1 Global Office.

Data quality is a top priority for organizations in the supply chain and getting it right first time delivers cost benefits throughout the entire process.  An ongoing system for continuous product data quality improvement, verification and validation has been proven to reduce costs associated with inventory shrinkage, manual workaround processes and lost sales.

Together with industry experts, GS1 UK, GS1 Global Office and input received from brand owners, LANSA has developed this App to help organizations realize their data quality challenges.  Using the GS1 Data Quality Framework as a specification, LANSA has successfully implemented the principles of this framework into an easy-to-use mobile application for manufacturers, brand owners, retailers, wholesalers and service providers across the entire consumer packaged goods industry.

Robert Besford, GS1 UK Solutions Manager said, "DQ Inspector is already helping GS1 UK speed up on-site inspections of physical products and more importantly reducing human errors to a minimum. GS1 UK strives to provide a consistently high level of accuracy when conducting data quality studies – DQ Inspector is a key tool that allows us to achieve this.”

DQ Inspector is a stand-alone application that operates in both a networked and offline environment.  The App has an embedded file management and communications system that allows the user to import product inspection sets in CSV format from either a server or via email attachment.  The user can perform an inspection against that data and export the results file via the same methods.  This data can then be further analyzed or routed to other downstream systems to generate DQF KPI reports or initiate workflow activities in a Product Information Management (PIM) system.
