Quadrant Software, a leading software developer for paperless process management solutions for the System i and Windows enterprises, has announced the immediate availability of version 4.7.3 of its line of Enterprise Fax servers. The v4.7.3 release is available for all versions of FastFax including FastFax/Enterprise, FastFax/Ultra, and FastFax/LAN.

FastFax replaces manual fax machines with secure batch and interactive faxing from the IBM System i (iSeries 400) running mission-critical business applications such as Infor XA, BPCS, PRMS, JD Edwards, among others. FastFax products allow users to transmit, receive, and centrally manage their faxes and emails directly from their desktop.

Enhancements in version 4.7.3 include:
  • Job/Document Tracking and Report

A new audit feature allows for tracking and reporting of all jobs and documents that are processed through FastFax. Users are now able to keep a complete record of documents processed and sent over to other applications for print, archival or delivery. The record details what was processed, in which application, along with the specific process within that application, and whether it was successful or not. The audit trail report can be run on-the-fly or be setup to automatically generate the audit log following a specific schedule. This new audit feature is especially useful when using FastFax in conjunction with Quadrant Software's Formtastic (the electronic forms, checks and labels solution) and/or IntelliChief (for document imaging and archival).

  • Utility and Imager Recovery

The Utility and Imager programs run on the FastFax server and are used during the fax creation process (converting spooled files to images, formatting the job, and more). A recovery function now controls those programs and takes over in case of system instability preventing the server from crashing. This added stability feature is completely transparent to the user and improves FastFax's ability to recover from potential crashes.

  • Support for Email Batches and Attachments

FastFax's LAN API, used to automate the sending of faxes outside the System i (iSeries) environment, now supports sending emails in batches and attaching files as TIFF, PDF, or in their native format (e.g. DOC, XLS, etc.) without user intervention. This gives network users the same powerful functionality for high volume document distribution that was already available to their System i counterparts.

  • Improved Flexibility for Working with Parameter Files

Parameter files are used to automate document distribution and contain fax/email metadata about what to send, to whom, when and how. The new version 4.7.3 now allows for setting up different folders where the parameter files can be saved and increased security by allowing the setup of restricted network folders. FastFax/LAN will then log on to these folders using the appropriate userID and password and process the parameter files. In addition to that, those files that have been processed are automatically removed from the folders and archived, thus improving processing speed.

Miscellaneous upgrades for all products in the FastFax family:
    • Additional support for the Email SMTP Gateways product allows users to send their faxes as emails even if their clients are setup for composing messages in HTML format.
    • Support for MS Exchange 2007.
    • Support for Windows 2003 64 bit OS for Terminal Services and all versions of Windows 2003-standard, enterprise, standard R2, enterprise R2.
    • Support 64 bit Operational Systems on file servers (Windows 2003 64 bit).
    • Now using Brooktrout's SDK 5.1.3 which includes several fixes from Brooktrout for systems using their high production fax cards.
    • Additional minor miscellaneous fixes were applied.

Over the years, FastFax has helped companies significantly reduce expenses and increase productivity. With FastFax, companies are able to automate and customize delivery according to recipient preference or document type (fax, email, print) and send in batch or on the fly.

Pricing for FastFax V4.7.3 starts at $8,400 and is free to customers on service agreements with Quadrant Software. The latest version of FastFax is available immediately.
