BCD Software LLC., a Quadrant Software company and an IBM i industry leader for almost 40 years, has announced the release of Presto 6.1, their rapid green screen and new RPG application modernization tool. This release includes several enhancements: new Visual Editor features, a collapsible mobile side menu, the ability to reconnect after losing your Internet connection and support for accessing PC applications from modernized green screens.
“We place a huge emphasis on efficiency when it comes to further enhancing Presto screens,” says Marcel Sarrasin, Quadrant’s VP of Corporate Marketing. “For example, Presto 6.1 makes it faster and more intuitive for programmers to add tabs and edit UI elements. Mobile functionality is also a focus with each release. The collapsible side menu and ability to easily reconnect after losing an Internet connection will greatly improve the end-user experience. Programmers can also take advantage of modern web technologies like HTML5 input types.”
New Visual Editor Features
Presto 6.1’s Visual Editor includes several enhancements:
- ? Improvements to adding tabs to screens: The process of adding tabs to screens and breaking up the content between them has been greatly simplified. For example, tabs automatically ‘snap’ together so you no longer have to manually align them. Presto’s Visual Editor also supports vertical tabs (stacked along the left or right side of a screen).
- ? Inline editing: If you’re adding text constants or containers in the Visual Editor, you can now edit the text inline.
- ? HTML5 input types: Presto now supports HTML5 input types including email, telephone and date.
Collapsible Mobile Side Menu
You can maximize screen real estate on mobile devices by configuring the side function key menu to collapse and expand on mobile devices. This is consistent with what users experience when using mobile applications in their daily lives.
Reconnecting after Lost Internet Connection
If you’re accessing your Presto application in a way that’s susceptible to connectivity fluctuations (perhaps while walking around a warehouse with a tablet) you may find your sessions hang. In Presto 6.1, if you try to take an action on a screen while your connection is down, Presto will prompt you to reconnect your Internet session, giving you the opportunity to continue where you left off.
Support for Accessing PC Applications from Presto Screens
Presto supports applications that use STRPCCMD. This allows you to launch an application on a personal computer from Presto. For example, a BCD customer has imaging applications where users can select records in their Presto screens and load related pictures or PDFs.
