IBM is encouraging IBM i developers to try its enterprise modernization products in a cloud environment where they don't need to install any software. Developers today can work through common modernization scenarios using the latest IBM development tools to see if they would be candidates for possible purchase later.

In the company's Enterprise Modernization Sandbox for Power Systems, part of IBM developerWorks, IBM provides developers with a series of three-hour time blocks to work through pre-designed exercises that replicate various modernization challenges in a typical business environment. If you need more than three hours, the company now offers an "extended experience" that allows you to secure additional time.

Among the products available to try include Rational Developer for Power Systems Software (RD for Power, formerly RDi), Rational Host Access Transformation Services for Multiplatforms (HATS), Rational Application Developer for WebSphere Software, Rational Business Developer, and Rational Team Concert for Power Systems Software, as well as access to several compilers for AIX.

Direct from the IBM website, below you will find all the links that you should need to set up your system and run through the series of exercises in the cloud. You may wish to print out the PDF exercise instructions before beginning each one. You will need to register on the IBM website and have an IBM user ID, usually your email address, in order to get started. Be sure to read the online trial use agreement.

  • SB HelpSystems ROBOT GenericCan you trust all of your users all of the time? A typical end user receives 16 malicious emails each month, but only 17 percent of these phishing campaigns are reported to IT. Once an attack is underway, most organizations won’t discover the breach until six months later. A staggering amount of damage can occur in that time. Despite these risks, 93 percent of organizations are leaving their IBM i systems vulnerable to cybercrime. In this on-demand webinar, IBM i security experts Robin Tatam and Sandi Moore will reveal:
