CoralTree Systems has announced the forthcoming availability of a new graphical designer component for the Renaissance Framework, the most popular Open Source RPG developer's tool-kit for the creation and deployment of robust, scalable and secure CGI-based applications on the IBM i on POWER platform.

The new design component will allow both new and existing users of the Renaissance Framework to more quickly and easily develop the visual parts of an application, by dragging and dropping user interface elements from a design palette plus the Framework's existing application data repository. Once design work is complete, the tool generates the corresponding ILE-RPG code, with support for subsequent round-trip updates being enabled by the GUI design being stored in the program source code in a Framework specific XML variant form. The new component, built using the Framework itself, makes significant use of the advanced UI functions that became available with the successful integration of the jQuery library (http://jquery.com) earlier this year. The latest Framework release also sports a completely refreshed look and feel based around jQuery themes, enabling Renaissance developers to give their applications first class user interfaces.

renaissance_10_11_10CoralTree will preview the new component, known as the  Renaissance Graphical Designer (RGD), at the NiSUG "Power Shift" conference in Manchester, UK, October 19.

CoralTree Technical Director, Kevin Turner said, "This latest addition to the Framework builds on the groundwork we completed earlier this year with the integration of jQuery. We are hopeful that this new tool will encourage a new generation of users to embrace the Framework, and provide a quantum leap forwards in the ease with which RPG programmers can produce world class browser-fronted applications."

The Renaissance Framework, including full source code, may be freely downloaded from the product web site www.renaissanceframework.com. Also available at the same location are a running demo version of the Framework, plus access to the product support forum.
