Considered the ‘globalization’ version, the V9 is without doubt the most significant release to date.
ARCAD Software, vendor of software change management and application modernization solutions in the IBM i environment and for open systems, announces the release V9 of its solutions. This new version enables real openness to other parts of the world. “This is the most important version we have released to date. We worked in depth to modernize the fundamental building blocks such as our process manager, as well as the database,” says Michel Mouchon, ARCAD Chief Technical Officer.
In order to be compatible internationally, ARCAD has evolved its entire database through implementation of fields in UNICODE. In order to perform this migration, ARCAD used its own tools, including ARCAD-Transformer, its extremely powerful source code refactoring solution. The extension of strategic fields such as the application code or the environment code offers support for an expanded range of characters, such as ideograms, for compatibility with Asian systems.
This new version has also made it possible to consolidate and simplify a number of points, especially:
- Simplification of the management parts of documents, site management, management of source/object/compilation types, and version management.
- Consolidation of certain processes and commands for improved user productivity.
One of the most visible developments is improved version status management, which is now handled over and above documents, allowing for actions at the highest level and more fine-tuned release management.
ARCAD is proud to also highlight its transversal component (source/object) tracking, which allows users to see the status of a component at the version level across all related applications. This function is of particular interest to clients who routinely modify several separate versions of their code.
The list manager and process manager have also benefited from major new changes to allow management of multiple instances of processes, in response to high demand from customers.

Many other enhancements simplify use at the process level, thus improving the performance and security of transfers to test and production. Management of ARCAD overall will also permit greater
security. Another advance in V9 is ARCAD multiple instance support, making it possible to have access to several ARCAD versions simultaneously, or to use several languages at the same time.
