Combined Aldon and Zend products enhance PHP development projects.
Aldon has announced that it is fully compatible with Zend Studio 7.0, via the just released Aldon Lifecycle Manager plug-in supporting both Eclipse 3.4 and 3.5. By using Aldon's change management solution in conjunction with the popular PHP-based IDE solution from Zend, development teams gain processes, predictability and visibility across Web-centric development projects—key benefits rarely associated with that area of development, the company said.
In the IBM i (System i, iSeries, AS/400) world, more and more companies are turning to PHP to modernize their applications by creating Web-based interfaces to RPG programs and DB2 database files. Zend Studio provides powerful PHP editing and debugging capabilities, along with a myriad of building-block components that speed up time to production, while promoting best practices along the way. Aldon's process-driven change management provides the development flexibility, management, and control essential for successful business application development. It also helps manage all aspects of PHP development, including testing, deployment, implementation, and reporting.
The Aldon plug-in also works with the prior release of Zend Studio 6.1, which makes the Aldon plug-in unique in that it can be inserted into any existing tool that supports Eclipse 3.4 and below, allowing users to work on both IBM i code and PHP code from the same IDE. By adding the Aldon Lifecycle Manager plug-in to the same IDE, you get the seamless combination of PHP, RPG and enterprise change management from one single interface.
A lack of visibility and project tracking can create frustration, particularly if an organization needs to comply with strict auditing regulations like Sarbanes-Oxley, but Aldon and Zend provide the application lifecycle management infrastructure needed to manage these fast-moving and dynamic applications, the company said.
Kent Mitchell, director of product management for Zend Technologies, said, "Zend's goal is always to provide solutions that maximize developer productivity, improve team collaboration, and establish development best practices. By adding the Aldon Change Management solution, things only get better: projects are better tracked, code more easily found, and team productivity is improved significantly."
With Aldon's Software Change Management solutions, Zend Studio users will get the following benefits:
- Automatically track historical data for audit compliance.
- Package and distribute code or content files to designated target locations at each stage of the development lifecycle using simple point-and-click functions.
- Quickly locate the components necessary for the task at hand, regardless of language, location or platform.
- Easily re-use previously developed components to facilitate SOA.
- Know that you are always working on the correct version of the artifacts, and that it's secure.
- Easily gather all components changed by the originating task, regardless of location, for ease of management, testing, promotion, and documentation.
- Automatically capture each milestone event in the lifecycle, e.g. checkout, promotion, approvals.
