VeriFone Holdings, Inc. has announced the MX860, the newest member of the MX800 series payment devices, and the MX800 series Price Checker.

The MX860 provides retailers with multimedia capabilities in a secure payment system that now combines wide-screen, videogame quality resolution and impact with tactile keys for disability compliance. The MX800 series price checker is a multi-functional customer interaction station that can deliver dazzling multimedia promotions, double as a gift card registry or loyalty program enrollment kiosk, and enable a variety of other customer-facing applications.

MX860

The MX860 supports the same feature set as existing MX800 series and is fully compatible with current software applications and certifications. The MX860 positions itself between the payment optimized MX850 systems and the multimedia optimized MX870, blending features of both, the company said.

The MX860 and other MX800 series devices deliver a new level of flexibility with payments and promotions capabilities, the company said. The payment systems in the MX800 series can be integrated with VeriFone's PAYware Vision, a solution for centrally managing all devices, content, and signature-capture solutions.

New modules for the MX800 series include a printer, a scanner, a printer/scanner combination and Wi-Fi; also new is a Power over Ethernet option. All of the modules are field upgradeable and may be retrofitted on existing deployed MX800 series products, which now also support an embedded browser for application development and user interface.

"The MX Solutions family gives retailers unprecedented control to mix and match compatible systems for most effective use while allowing for maximum creativity in promotions design and delivery," said Paul Rasori, VeriFone vice president of global product marketing. "The MX860 meets the needs of retailers who want to provide consumers with payment systems utilizing tactile keys, but who also want the benefits of high-end graphics and multimedia in a device suitable for deployment anywhere in the store."

The flexibility of tactile keys in a wide-screen device allows retailers to utilize multimedia promotions in any payment scenario and provides more flexibility for customized solutions at every customer touch point.

MX860 provides superior visual clarity and ultra-crisp on-screen graphics with an industry-leading 480x272 pixel screen resolution for a brighter, clearer display and fast visual transitions for more eye-catching promotions.

The new MX800 modules provide retailers with the ability to deploy a virtually endless list of customer-activated touch points within the store all based on a single platform. This provides retailers with the ability to deploy multi-application customer service applications with their MX Solutions system, including price checking, product locators, loyalty enrollment, gift card purchase and reload, and instant credit applications.

The open architecture of the MX Solutions operating system and the common applications and hardware modules for the MX800 series permit the easy integration and mix of payment devices to fit unique integrated retailer needs. The MX800 series provides one platform of devices, software, applications and support to lower the cost of ownership, including initial investment, training, and support infrastructure.

The MX860 will be available in the first quarter and the new additional modules in the second quarter.

MX800 Series Price Checker

The MX800 series Price Checker combines with MX800 payment systems to deliver the only PCI PED-approved price checker on the market and is capable of accepting secure payments from consumers, the company said.

Integrated with VeriFone's MX870 or other MX800 series payment system, the MX800 series Price Checker is expected to increase customer interaction by offering self-service customer applications and multimedia promotions anywhere throughout a store. The system can provide consumers with services including price checking, product locator, product information, gift card lookup or reload, gift card purchases, bill payments and more.

"Shoppers are increasingly looking for easy-to-use, speedy self-serve applications that enable them to avoid waiting in lines," said Paul Rasori, VeriFone vice president of global product marketing. "Merchants looking to reduce store labor costs and improve consumer service can offer self-service customer touch points utilizing VeriFone's MX800 series Price Checker to deliver revenue-generating applications or capture consumer attention with brilliant animated promotions anywhere throughout their stores."

The MX800 series Price Checker delivers all the benefits of MX Solutions, including an integrated platform of software and applications; field-upgradeable modules that are easy to use; and services to help retailers maximize revenue with multimedia payments and promotions capabilities.

The MX800 series Price Checker offers a variety of installation options, including power over Ethernet and Wi-Fi. It features a powerful processing engine and large ultra-crisp color display. When combined with a printer, it can be used as a payments station, for consumer enrollment in loyalty programs, or instant credit application. The unit will be available in the second quarter of 2008.
