TurboGorilla-Software, creators of the iSeries PC-Engine suite of iSeries/PC integration tools, will be awarded the IBM Systems Magazine 2007 Honor Roll award at the spring COMMON in Anaheim, Shannon O'Donnell, president of TurboGorilla-Software told MC Showcase.

IBM Systems Magazine bases its awards on a 4.0 scale in a variety of categories including:

  • Installation
  • Ease of Use
  • Documentation
  • Functionality
  • Usefulness, and
  • Support

    In its May 2006 issue of the magazine, TurboGorilla-Software received an overall score of 3.835 out of 4.0 for the PC-Engine, O'Donnell said.

    The iSeries PC-Engine is a low-cost alternative to expensive software packages from big-name vendors, which allows you to perform all of the following from a 5250 green-screen with no programming:

  • Completely customize the application
    • Restrict/allow PC applications and PC files at the system level
    • Restrict/allow PC applications and PC files at the user profile level
  • Run in two modes
    • Run-it-and-forget-it - (host application continues processing while PC file/application is open)
    • Run it and wait - (host application waits until PC file/application completes)
    • Convert OS/400 spooled files to PDF files
  • eMail OS/400 spooled files as a PDF file eMail attachment
  • Create PC files on the fly!
  • Open PC files using the default Windows file associaton
    • For example, if a user wants to open a *.TXT (text) file, she can let Windows decide what PC application (probably Notepad.exe) to use to open the text file with.
  • Specify explicit PC application for opening PC files
  • Push DB2/400 data to MS Word, MS Excel, WordPerfect, Outlook, etc.
  • Send eMail through the default PC email application
  • Open Web pages from a green screen!
  • Open HTML files on the user's PC or on a network share
  • Open image files on the user's PC or on a network share
  • Display satellite imagery based on geo-coding or latitude and longitude
  • Search GOOGLE, the world's most popular search engine, right from a green-screen
  • Start an FTP session on the user's PC and tracks UPS packages by tracking number or reference number from a legacy application
