About 200 employees in IBM's Systems and Technology Group will be laid off, according to IBM.
Part of what the company calls a "rebalancing of skills," the layoff appears to have little to do with the economy in general and is confined to the Systems and Technology Group, according to IBM. Most of the employees work in staff functions attached to group headquarters in the Somers, N.Y., area, though several live outside Westchester County and still report to headquarters. No "client-facing" positions are affected, the company said.
The employees, who already have received, or soon will get notices, are being given 30 days in which to find other jobs. The company said they will be slotted into available positions at IBM if there is a match between employee experience and identified company requirements.
