Company plans to give attendees in the Expo a hands-on demo of its powerful new Vision Solutions Portal interface on the Apple iPAD2 3G—then raffle off the device!
Vision Solutions, Inc., a leading provider of information availability software and services for IBM Power Systems, Windows, Linux and Cloud Computing markets, announced it will participate in the upcoming COMMON 2011 Annual Meeting and Exposition, May 1-4 in Minneapolis featuring technical experts who will present several insightful sessions during the four-day event and host a press conference for the media.

The annual meeting is COMMON’s largest educational event of the year, with four full days of in-depth IBM i and AIX education including pre-conference workshops, open labs and a wide variety of regular-length sessions. The event incorporates four days of leading-edge IBM i, AIX, and Linux-related education courses and experts on-hand to answer questions throughout the conference, which is also designed with networking with fellow technical colleagues.
Highlights
COMMON 2011 participants can locate Vision Solutions’ at Booth 311. Inside the area, Vision will be providing live demonstrations of its powerful new Vision Solutions Portal interface using Apple iPADs during expo hours. Experts will also be available to answer questions about Vision Solutions’ technology and several latest enhancements. Vision Solutions will also raffle an iPad2 3G with one year of data service on Tuesday, May 3 at 1:00 P.M.
Vision Solutions’ Ferenc Gyurcsan, will present several sessions throughout the event. With more than a decade of experience in the clustering industry, Gyurcsan holds a depth of knowledge in high availability and high performance computer clusters. Along with high availability and disaster recovery knowledge, he is an expert in the business continuity arena with a focus on AIX and Linux solutions. His previous roles included lead software engineer for IBM’s HACMP product suite, as well as sustaining development manager for IBM PowerHA and for Vision’s open systems products. Gyurcsan holds an MBA degree from the University of New Hampshire, an MSCE degree from the Budapest University of Technology and Economics, and a product management PMC certification. - Sunday, May 1, 9:30 a.m. Room 101 D, Disaster Recovery and Business Resiliency on AIX. Those attending will learn about business drivers and decision factors from business resiliency to disaster recovery for AIX on Power Systems.
- Sunday, May 1, 12:30 p.m. Room 101 G, Concepts and Best Practices for AIX CDP and DR with Double-Take Availability. Those attending will learn the “Why and How” of continuous data protection (CDP) for disaster recovery and traditional data backup and recovery solutions.
- Monday, May 2, 8 a.m. Room 205 CD, LAB - AIX DR and CDP in Action – Double-Take Availability for AIX. Those attending will participate in a hands-on lab using Double-Take Availability for AIX to recover from data corruptions (logical disasters) and physical disasters in an AIX environment.
- Monday, May 2, 2 p.m. Room101 D, AIX and Power Virtualization Complements HA/DR for Business Continuity. Those attending will learn about utilizing Power Systems/AIX Virtualization to complement and enhance HA and DR architectures.
- Tuesday, May 3, 9:30 p.m. Room 101 D, What You Need to Know: AIX on Power Systems. This session provides participants with a technical overview of AIX on Power Systems for system administrators.
Also presenting at the event is John Vriezen, senior architect for Vision Solutions. Vriezen initially spent 10 years at IBM’s Rochester Development Lab, working primarily on AS/400 and iSeries Database and Journaling components. Over the span of five years, he worked with ShowCase STRATEGY, a Multi-dimensional database offering from ShowCase Corporation. And most recently, Vriezen has been employed by Lakeview/Vision. For over a decade he has been working on MIMIX and iTera Availability.

Those attending learn about using DB2 SQL for more than tracking customers/accounts. - Tuesday, May 3 at 2 p.m. MCC, 101 C, The Anatomy of IBM i Logical Replication.
Those attending will discover several replication challenges HA Software vendors face. - Wednesday, May 4 at 8 a.m. MCC,101 B, Vision Product Software Development for IBM i Participants will learn how Vision copes with five development sites around the world while utilizing modern tools to help technologists be more productive.
