Randy Dufault takes over from Pete Massiello as president of the organization, while newcomer Justin Porter takes a seat on the board.
COMMON formally announced results of its 2012–2013 Board of Directors election today. The winners include one board member who was re-elected to his second three-year term, Pete Massiello, and two newly elected members, Randy Dufault and Justin Porter.
“I would like to congratulate Randy Dufault and Justin Porter on their election to the COMMON Board, and look forward to working with them,” said Pete Massiello, the Immediate Past President and re-elected board member. “I know the time commitment required to oversee a user group like COMMON is substantial and they, along with all COMMON volunteers, are making a significant personal sacrifice to ensure COMMON continues to move forward to meet the needs of its membership.” Pete further added, “I welcome Randy back to the COMMON Board and am confident that his experience and wisdom will further add to the strength of the COMMON Board. Justin’s fresh perspective will help provide COMMON with valuable insight into reaching the next generation of members. I would also like to thank all COMMON members that took the time to vote in this year’s election.”
The officers of the 2012–2013 COMMON Board of Directors include President, Randy Dufault, Executive Vice President Bob Krzeczowski, Treasurer Jeff Carey, Secretary Pete Helgren, and Immediate Past President Pete Massiello. The Board election results and officers were announced at the Meeting of the Members last week during the 2012 Annual Meeting and Exposition in Anaheim, California.
Randy Dufault
Randy Dufault is the Director of Solution Development for Genus Technologies in Minneapolis, Minnesota. In that role he is responsible for the architecture and design of software solutions for clients across the country and around the world. Those solutions center on IBM Software technologies and often concentrate on unstructured data management. He is a long-time COMMON member and volunteer, with experience across the organization. He also currently serves as Chairman of COMMON’s Certification Steering Committee.
Pete Massiello
Pete Massiello has been working with the AS/400, iSeries, i5, IBM i since 1989, focusing on systems management and technical support. He has held numerous technical positions throughout his career. He is the President of iTech Solutions Group, an IBM Advanced Business Partner delivering solutions and services to IBM i shops throughout the US. He is a member of IBM’s certification test writing team, an IBM Certified Systems Expert with certifications in iSeries Design, Administration, Implementation, LPAR, and HMC management. Pete has a BS in Computer Science from Hofstra University, and an MBA from the University of New Haven. He is President of COMMON, a COMMON Hall of Fame speaker, and a frequent speaker at user groups all over the world. In 2011 IBM established the Champions award for Power Systems, Pete was one of the first recipients.
Justin Porter
Justin Porter is the Director of Technology for Westside Produce. Westside Produce being a very small enterprise, Justin runs the entire program; everything from infrastructure design to annual budgeting to implementation for all IT and communications functions fall under his responsibility. Justin has also been very active in the IBM i community. He has served as a member of the COMMON America’s Advisory Council (CAAC), a member of the Community and Networking (CaN) group, a member of the Certification Steering Committee and a regular guest on to the Board of Directors. Justin has a strong foundation in both technology and business, both professionally and academically.
