A new COMMON educational seminar, COMMON Focus 2007, designed as a workshop conference event on System i education, will be held Oct. 14û17 in Columbus, Ohio. This event, which planners expect will be held annually, will provide three days of intense, focused education.

COMMON Focus 2007 will be a smaller, more intimate event than a traditional COMMON conference with a limited number of attendees allowing for more one-on-one interaction with the speakers and other attendees.

There will be 15 in-depth, all-day educational workshops offeredùboth in lab- and lecture-style formatsùon a wide range of topic areas.

People can attend only one workshop per day, which is intended to provide them with the opportunity to focus their educational needs on a specific topic each day.

Workshops offered will include the following:

Day 1

  • Disaster recovery primer
  • Modernizing RPG applications
  • Implementing i5/OS security
  • (LAB): PHP essentials
  • (LAB): WDS and WDSc guided tour

    Day 2

  • Disaster recovery: be well prepared
  • All you need to know about SQL in six hours
  • System i access for the Web
  • (LAB): Hands-on .NET for System i developers
  • (LAB): IBM System i Navigator workshop

    Day 3

The conference also will feature a tabletop-style exhibition area featuring a limited number of exhibitors. Attendees will be able to view and get hands-on demonstrations on the latest System i-related solutions available to them.
