24/7 on-demand education can increase technical skills while minimizing training expenses.

After announcing the general availability last spring of its eLearning environment, LANSA is noting very good uptake among customers and business partners, who see the value in 24/7 on-demand training for LANSA products across the company's full line of application development, modernization and integration tools. LANSA's eLearning offering, which works well on its own or as a complement to its classroom training, allows developers to work at their own pace and refresh their knowledge as needed, the company says.

Soon after introducing an eLearning early adopter program in January, LANSA received enrollments from 64 users representing 29 companies. "Response to the early adopter program was excellent, but not surprising," said Steve Gapp, president of LANSA Americas. "Even with the current economic pressures, companies are still investing in their employees through continued education--it's the airfare and hotel costs that are difficult to justify. When managers contemplate travel costs along with the absence of a developer for a week, education requests get declined. LANSA's eLearning solves this issue because it provides our customers and partners with a means to educate themselves without leaving the office."

LANSA eLearning provides users with a preconfigured environment that preserves their data and settings until they request to wipe the slate clean. Users can create individual learning plans by technology or skill level and track their progress. Response to the initiative has been very positive. LANSA customer Arlyn Dale of Intelliware said, "LANSA's eLearning environment has enabled us to quickly bring our new developers up to speed. Learning an unfamiliar environment can be a bit overwhelming at first, but LANSA's eLearning has simplified the steps and made understanding the technology very easy ? plus our developers don't have to wait until the next available class." Entry Level Developer, Nithya Swaminathan, from LANSA Business Partner Rippe & Kingston, Inc. said, "The step-by-step instructions along with the self-explanatory diagrams shorten the learning curve and reduce the time spent learning a product."

Gapp said that since user acceptance and scalability has been thoroughly tested and people are pleased with the response time and available content, the company has made the offering available to all 7000 LANSA customers and 300 business partners worldwide. "The objective of LANSA's eLearning offering is to provide our customers and business partners with a cost effective way to invest in their employees by allowing their developers to increase their skills as time permits in their hectic schedule," said Gapp.
