expressor software, a leader in semantic data integration, has announced V2.0 of the expressor semantic data integration system, which expands its capabilities with new reporting and bulk-loading tools, comprehensive productivity and usability improvements across all expressor integrator tools, as well as additional connectivity and platform support for the expressor processor.
"With expressor V2.0, we have fulfilled our initial vision of the next-generation data integration system: a smarter, faster and more affordable DI solution based on semantic metadata rationalization, high-performance parallel data processing and usage-based pricing," said Bob Potter, CEO, expressor software.
"The enhancements in this version of expressor are based on extensive user and partner feedback, rigorous proof-of-concept performance and capability benchmarks, as well as a wide variety of use cases, including low-latency cloud computing, complex data processing and operational data integration," he said.
"BitWise has been working with the leading high-performance ETL tools for nearly a decade and we know many organizations are ready for the kind of next-generation solution offered by the expressor semantic data integration system," said Salil Sakhardande, president of BitWise. "We are seeing strong interest in the AXES ETL conversion tool we recently introduced and we look forward to working with the company to extend expressor's market reach through BitWise's proven, economical, onsite-offshore delivery model."
BitWise will be featuring the AXES ETL-to-expressor conversion tool in a live webinar and demonstration on May 14, 11 am EDT.
expressor 1.0 was announced in May and shipped in July of 2008. The company's partner program was announced in August 2008 and now includes nearly 20 technology, reseller and systems integrator partners in the US, Europe and the US Federal Government markets.
Last March, Gartner included expressor software in its "Cool Vendors in Data Management and Integration, 2009" report. One of the report's key findings was that "semantic integration techniques are enabling greater efficiency and reusability for services deployed for data migration, synchronization and access. They are also improving the management of business rule reuse in data warehouses." In addition, the report recommended that organizations "look for ways in which data integration deployments can improve reuse and scalability," and "explore the use of semantically-based approaches to resolve integration challenges, such as those relating to metadata and role-based management."
What's New in expressor 2.0
V2.0 of expressor includes new tools for reporting and bulk-loading of metadata, extensive productivity and usability enhancements and expanded connectivity and platform support.
expressor communicator is a new reporting tool that provides visibility into application projects and operations to enable users to build design- and run-time reports for impact analysis, dependency tracking, dictionary and artifact usage and operational statistics. expressor communicator works with standard JDBC and ODBC-based, off-the-shelf reporting tools and interfaces.
expressor initiator is a new productivity tool that facilitates the process of creating semantic terms and definitions through the bulk-loading and editing of source meta data. expressor initiator is built on an easy-to-use grid interface that enables users to assign subject areas and meta-types to multiple definitions in a single operation. It can also import terms and definitions from external sources and enables users to save, share and review all work prior to loading in the expressor repositor.
Performance enhancements to the expressor processor include new exception-handling capabilities for RDBMS exceptions and new parameters to control behavior when input data does not match an expressor image (such as invalid date/time formats, numeric conversion errors or string overflow). expressor images are XML files that provide descriptions of external data record structures. In addition, the expressor processor now supports 64-bit Linux and Solaris platforms and includes connectivity for MQ Series, Microsoft MQ and JMS messaging systems as well as full support for connecting to ODBC data sources and reading complex XML files.
"expressor's ability to process complex data types ‘natively' and ‘in-flight,' especially semi-structured formats such as XML, makes it well-suited to operational data integration applications," said Philip Russom, senior manager of TDWI Research at The Data Warehousing Institute, and author of the recent TDWI report: "Operational Data Integration, A New Frontier in Data Management."
Two major productivity enhancements for expressor administrator are the ability to "cut and paste" images, networks and projects, and the ability to automatically create an image from COBOL copybooks. expressor administrator also includes a new project workspace and workflow for editing image and network files as well as improvements to its semantic rationalization editor.
expressor illustrator now includes the ability to run and test drawings on a remote machine during ETL application development, a new toolbar that provides one-click access to many common functions, and a new execution window that provides an improved interface for observing runtime statistics.
expressor's brand new Windows installer allows users to install single or multiple expressor tools and pre-requisites in a single pass and includes streamlined workflow and parameter gathering to ease overall installation.
Availability and Pricing
expressor 2.0 will become generally available in mid-June 2009. The expressor pricing model is based on channels-with each channel representing a unit of parallel data processing-and ranges from $5,000 for a single channel six-month term license to $20,000 for a single-channel perpetual license. expressor customers have typically found they can get started with a few channels on their first application for less than $100,000 and cut their total data integration costs in half when compared to other mainstream ETL/data integration vendor solutions. For more information on expressor pricing, see the pricing page on the company's website: http://www.expressor-software.com/list_prices.htm.
