The EZeDocs eLabels module eliminates barcode fonts at the printer or outsourcing label printing.
Caterpillar has compliance-tested labels generated by the EZeDocs/400 eLabels module of ACOM Solutions’ AS/400/iSeries/System i document output software suite and now recommends the software as an approved solution for producing the Caterpillar Standard Practice 20 master, single-pack and multi-pack labels that its vendors are required to use for shipments to the company’s various facilities, it was announced today by James R. Scott, ACOM senior vice president, general manager--core business division.
The Caterpillar labels were designed to the company’s label specifications by ACOM Professional Services in the PDF 417 two-dimensional barcode format for production on a Zebra label printer. Each label carries an extensive data record of the contents of the shipment which can be scanned automatically into the Caterpillar management/inventory software.
“The EZeDocs eLabels module eliminates the need for barcode fonts built into the printer as well as any need to outsource label printing and to accommodate the associated stationery inventory functions,” Scott said. “Users generate the labels quickly and economically from stored templates tied to the specific data file as they are needed.”
“The module outputs to compact, quiet laser and thermal printers versus bulky, noisy impact models. Moreover, since it is software-based, changes to label and other document layouts can be accomplished in minutes.”
The EZeDocs/400 eLabels module is an iSeries-resident application that integrates with other iSeries programs, precluding the need to download data for production of labels. Accessed directly or remotely via PC support or Client Access, it allows users to generate industry-standard barcodes and labels in a variety of formats.
In addition to the PDF 417, commonly used formats include UPC, 3 of 9 Postnet and Code 128, among others. Its capabilities also include inventory labels, pallet labels, customer compliant labels and others, including custom designs, and it is compliant with AIAG, Kmart, Wal-Mart, JCPenney and all other standard label formats.
