How Data Architectures Are Evolving Beyond On-Premises and Classic Cloud to Add Another Dimension of Data Security

As worldwide security growth moves to more than $96 billion in 2018, Gartner is predicting an increase of eight percent from 2017 for cybersecurity investment. Organizations are spending more on security as a result of regulations, shifting buyer mindset, awareness of emerging threats and the evolution to a digital business strategy.

Responding to this need, Cloud Constellation Corporation, creator of SpaceBelt, today announced the release of a joint white paper with IBM detailing how data storage architectures are evolving beyond on-premises and classic cloud to become more secure by moving data assets into space. The paper is available for free download here: http://ow.ly/FEEe30ip4zL

One of the new paradigms for security that is emerging is Cloud Constellation's SpaceBelt, a tightly managed, low-earth-orbit satellite network to securely store and manage data. More than merely a data warehouse in space, SpaceBelt's data storage platform provides for ultra-secure sovereign data storage and retrieval from most locations around the globe. IBM, with its leading cloud architecture, will work with SpaceBelt to provide another dimension to its cloud strategy.

Key points of the paper include:

  • Working Towards a More Secure Future in Data: An integrated and layered approach to accessing and storing data allows security to move beyond just on-premises or cloud solutions to highly secured data in space.
  • SpaceBelt - Securing Data in Low Earth Orbit: A LEO global network provides increased security and independence from jurisdictional control, eliminating the need for terrestrial hops and their inherent data breach vulnerability.
  • IBM as a Foundation for the Most Secure Data: IBM's Managed Security Services secure sensitive data across a full range of environments. The addition of a space-based layer beyond cloud will form the foundation for a more secure data future.

Cliff Beek, CEO and president, SpaceBelt, said: "SpaceBelt aims to align with IBM and others to deliver an ultimate data security solution, as we construct our constellation of satellites and ground facilities to begin service in 2020. We anticipate that the SpaceBelt platform, with the IBM Cloud solution, will provide a unique value to IBM's customers and ours, offering a tiered approach to security and sovereign data protection for years to come."
