ProStor Systems, a leading developer of removable disk storage solutions, has announced the addition of a 160 GB capacity to its lineup of RDX removable disk cartridges.
RDX technology is the new multi-vendor standard in removable disk storage media for backup, archiving, and portable data applications. Compatible RDX solutions are available from several companies, including Tandberg Data, Imation, and a leading PC and server manufacturer. RDX media is now available with native cartridge capacities of 40, 80, 120 and 160 GB, allowing small and medium-sized business users a choice of capacities and backup options for their servers and workstations. Like all RDX cartridges, the new 160 GB capacity is fully forward and backward compatible with other RDX drives.
ôWe recognize the importance of professional-grade data protection for small and medium-sized businesses,ö said Steve Georgis, CEO and president of ProStor Systems. ôThatÆs why we remain committed to advancing RDX technology to its greatest potential, providing the most reliable and best price/performance/capacity ratio of any removable media solution for the SMB user,ö he added. ôSmall businesses are replacing low-end tape and fixed disk storage with RDX technology because itÆs fast, safe, transportable and easy to use, he said.öDesigned with enterprise-class features, RDX cartridges and drives back up more than 125 GB of data per hour, access files instantly, and archive data safely in a form that will last more than a decade. The RDX storage solution is 10 times faster and more reliable than any tape storage product used in the past by small and mid-sized businesses.
Commenting on the announcement, James Ellis, vice president of strategic growth programs at Imation, said, ôWe are pleased to support RDX technology, a forward- and backward-compatible technology. Users need not purchase a new drive to take advantage of improved capacity as new cartridges will continue to work in existing drives. With a choice of capacities to meet individual needs from 40 GB to 160 GB, we see RDX technology providing an extremely attractive set of storage attributes to the SMB user.ö
