IBM today announced the System Storage DS3000, powerful new entry-level disk arrays featuring integrated management software designed to give small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs), as well as distributed large enterprise customers, a simple, reliable and affordable solution to handle all their storage needs.
A key feature of the new DS3000 is the intuitive Storage Manager software, which comes standard on all configurations, and allows customers to set up and manage their data resources in six easy steps. The simple configuration, administration and management of the DS3000 is an important feature for SMBs, or remote offices of a large distributed enterprise, and may not have access to the IT expertise required to set up a storage network.
ôSmall and medium businesses are faced with managing a rising tide of feature-rich e-mail and greater file-print requirements, while large enterprises are implementing new applications, including video security and digital imaging. These customers need an entry storage product that can grow to meet their needs,ö said Jim Gargan, vice president and business line executive, IBM. ôThe DS3000 Series provides an optimal solution, helping businesses to easily manage their data, while freeing up IT administrator time and allowing them to focus on top business priorities.ö
The DS3000 Series is comprised of the IBM System Storage DS3200 and the IBM System Storage DS3400. Both products offer an entry-level single controller model and a dual controller model to help maintain data-availability. The DS3200 system is a direct-attached storage solution that offers support for clustering and provides 3 Gbps SAS connection to the host. It is a flexible solution for IBM System x servers and select third party servers. The DS3400 system, which can be direct attached or used in a SAN configuration, is designed to accommodate 4 Gbps Fibre Channel connectivity. The DS3400 offers flexibility for both IBM System x and BladeCenter servers, in addition to select third-party servers.
Both systems support 12 SAS hard disk drives for 3.6 terabytes, and up to three EXP3000 enclosures for greater than 14.4 terabytes of raw capacity that allow for the storage systems to scale up to 48 hard disk drives. Additionally, these new systems are compatible with the DS4000 Storage Manager providing IBM system architecture to grow with customer needs.
The combination of IBM's System x and BladeCenter systems with the new IBM storage options offer clients a comprehensive solution to help address both work group and departmental needs such as managing databases, email and web serving.
The IBM System Storage DS3000 Series is available January 30, 2007. The IBM System Storage DS3200 will start at a list price of $4,495 and the DS3400 will start at a list price of $6,495*.
