Seagull Software, a leading provider of high-performance solutions that transform legacy business applications into service-oriented architecture (SOA) assets, announced general availability of version 4.1 of BlueZone Access Server.

BlueZone Access Server is a three-tier, Web-to-host solution which provides secure, browser-based pure HTML and thin client terminal emulation for IBM mainframe (TN3270 and TN3270E), System i (TN5250 and TN5250E) and VT100 environments.

Security features of BlueZone Access Server include synchronized authentication with Microsoft's Active Directory (ADS), Windows Domains and RSA SecurID as well as built-in 128-bit encryption, HTTPS support, IP tagging and user-specific LU/Device assignment.

A centralized management interface allows granular control over user authentication, configuration, resource allocation, live sessions and access.

BlueZone Access Server is highly scalable with built-in Session Load Balancing (SLB) and Failover Services (FOS). BlueZone Access Server can be deployed either as a single server or in a clustered model to ensure robustness, scalability and high availability. BlueZone Access Server includes light weight display, printer and file transfer ActiveX clients that get downloaded only once, as well as a pure HTML display client that does not require any download and is browser independent.

"BlueZone Access Server 4.1 adds to the options available to our terminal emulation customers, and it's one of the many business drivers behind our acquisition of Farabi Technology last year," said Kim Addington, executive vice president and chief marketing officer of Seagull Software. "Our goal is to continue to earn the commodity terminal emulation business of enterprises around the world by offering irresistible price/performance, and a broad range of deployment options that give our customers complete flexibility."

Seagull Software's value proposition to terminal emulation users centers around significant cost savings for switching from incumbent emulators to BlueZone solutions. "We typically save customers 50 to 80 percent on the 3-year total cost of ownership - this amounts to hundreds of thousands of dollars per year for many enterprises," said Addington. "We offer simple licensing, no extra charges for upgrades, and a broad variety of deployment options - all designed to make it very easy to switch to BlueZone."

New features of BlueZone Access Server Version 4.1 include:

  • Quick configuration wizard
  • HTML page editing wizard
  • New HTML emulation client
  • HTML style sheet for the HTML client for easy customization
  • Support for keyboard shortcut keys and function keys in HTML client
  • Access to management interface synchronized with ADS

BlueZone Access Server is ideal for customers who have requirements such as:

  • Zero footprint emulation in pure HTML
  • Connection must run on HTTP(S) due to network security policies
  • Mobile workers need secure remote access from public computers
  • No direct telnet access to the host computer can be permitted, so 3-tier solution is perfect

BlueZone Access Server is one of several application access and integration solutions from Seagull Software. The company specializes in non-invasive solutions for transforming domain-rich legacy applications into Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) assets. Because all BlueZone terminal emulation customers are by definition actively using legacy applications, they are ideal candidates for Seagull Software's LegaSuiteR integration, GUI and workflow solutions. "Seagull Software is the "go to" supplier for the full spectrum of customers' legacy access and integration needs," commented Addington.
