Access your multi-member files, let your users dynamically select the member they want to query at run time, and create a report that uses the latest and greatest database engine technology.
Written by Gene Cobb
Over the last several years, I have written several articles about DB2 for i and DB2 Web Query, some of which emphasized the importance of employing techniques to ensure that your queries are using the SQL Query Engine (SQE), the strategic database engine for DB2 for i. One of the requirements for SQE processing is that the database access method must be SQL. However, one of the very few drawbacks with SQL access on our beloved system is that it does not natively support the concept of physical file members.

Simplify the way you ensure that IBM i system values are in compliance.
Written by Robin Tatam
Hopefully, you reviewed and configured your System i server's system values as part of your security procedures. If not, you should take the time to familiarize yourself with these values to understand how they impact security. With each new release of the operating system, IBM adds more system values (information about new values is available in the "Memo to Users" at the online Information Center). And once these values are set, you must ensure they stay that way. But manually comparing values is both labor?intensive and error?prone. There are better approaches.

Although XML is everywhere, CSV files are still commonly used.
Written by Jan Jorgensen
Despite the popularity of XML, comma-separated values (CSV) are still used in many applications. You might like it or not, but they are, and PHP offers two very strong functions to handle CSV strings. And that is what I will show you today.

Marketing wants Web analytics in a simple and modern view to validate campaigns.
Written by Floyd Del Muro
Perhaps your ISP gives you canned reports on Web site activity that don't show you what you need to know or don't offer very good historical reporting. Or perhaps you'd like a better way to do more in-depth or ad hoc analysis. If your organization would like to improve how it tracks, reports, and analyzes Web site activity, consider Help/Systems' SEQUEL for the task.

In the current recession, education is often the first thing cut from the budget. We find this reaction not only shortsighted but completely insane.
Written by Jon Paris and Susan Gantner
We at System i Developer are professional educators in the business of training IBM i developers via both onsite classes and conferences such as the upcoming RPG & DB2 Summit. We also have years of experience working with companies that have excellent ongoing training programs and companies that don't, and we've seen the differing degrees of success of those companies.
So how can you get training for yourself or your staff when the times are against you? The first step is to be able to articulate the payback.

i talk to other servers. No, it's not a typo. This TechTip series will get your System i talking to other servers.
Written by Rafael Victoria-Pereira
Back in the old days, when our server was called AS/400, there were few or even no "satellite systems" like PC servers that needed to pass and/or receive data from it. Nowadays, it's a totally different landscape: the i sits together with a broad scope of servers and devices with which it has to communicate, passing and receiving data. These interfaces are, at times, manual data imports or exports performed by operators via boring and repetitive procedures.
