BOSaNOVA, Inc., a leading supplier of security solutions, thin clients, and network appliances has announced that its Q3 storage encryption appliance now has the ability to support multiple devices.

BOSaNOVA's encryption products include the Q3, a stand-alone storage security encryption appliance, and the Q3i, a secure tape drive with built-in encryption. The company notes that both products offer easy installation, strong and simple key management, and PCI-compliant encryption.

The multiple-drive firmware for the Q3 is designed to allow users with specific configurations to use a single tape backup encryption appliance to handle data from up to four drives. Each drive can be set to either "secure" mode or to "transparent" pass-through mode, which allows tapes written in clear text to be read by the system. Each drive is controlled independently and full status information for each can be displayed on the included GUI.

With its user interface, the Q3 unit will auto configure according to the number of connected drives and allows robotic controls to be passed through on a fifth SCSI address, or logical unit number (LUN). The encryption unit remains transparent to the operating system and backup software, making for straightforward integration and operation, the company says.

"The continuing number of high profile security breaches due to lost and stolen tapes reported in the press is leading many companies to realize they are also at risk in this area," says Martin Pladgeman, BOSaNOVA president. "The Q3 update to support multiple devices on a single Q3 unit follows our commitment to always remain up to date on the latest technology, while maintaining support for legacy systems, to offer our customers the simplest, most cost-effective solution for protecting data at rest, whatever the system platform they are using."

The Q3 storage encryption appliance has been confirmed as an IBM System Storage Proven Solution. It is available for purchase through BOSaNOVA's resellers.
