ChatGPT-4: Fear and Loathing of Lost Wages, AI-Style
Although there have already been plenty of concerns about how AI as a technology will cause seismic changes in numerous fields, OpenAI’s recent release of ChatGPT-4 has pushed many observers to a premature tipping point of existential panic.
By John Ghrist
Since the late 1960s, science fiction thrillers have gleefully anticipated the day when inventing a tool as clever as AI would come back to bite us. HAL 9000, Skynet, and similar silicon-based villains have all along seemed destined to usher in the fall of our species as soon as humans got stupid enough to make computers that are smart enough. Suddenly this spring, ChatGPT-4’s release seems to have become the “red sky at morning” of which sailors of digital seas must take warning. With apologies to Hunter S. Thompson, a review of the bidding may be in order.

Artificial Intelligence, Part 4: Machine Learning Methods
Next in our series on Artificial Intelligence fundamentals, we take a look at different types of Machine Learning methods. If you missed them, Read Part 1, Understanding Data, Part 2: Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, and Deep Learning, and Part 3: Data Preparation and Model Tuning here.
By Roger Sanders
The illustration shown in Figure 1 provides an overview of the different types of machine learning (ML) methods that are available, along with examples of where each method might be used. The most common types of learning methods utilized are supervised learning and unsupervised learning.
Artificial Intelligence (AI) Use Cases: Government and Retail
Most government departments around the world are underfunded, understaffed, and face massive backlogs.
By Roger Sanders
The resulting costs are both financial and reputational, since the inability to deliver core services in a timely manner directly impacts the lives of every citizen. Consequently, the potential uses for artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML), and deep learning (DL) in government are wide and varied. And, according to research conducted by Accenture for their Accenture Federal Technology Vision 2018 report, federal agencies are ready and willing to employ AI in their operations.
