UIM Help Window Borders

Q: We recently began to use UIM panel groups to display help windows from our applications. We also use the Window DDS keywords to display information such as searches or inquiries. Our DDS windows are defined with the reverse space characters in white so that a solid border forms around the window.

The help panel usually comes up with a dotted-line border (when displayed over a normal screen). It seems that if we have a help area defined in a DDS window that is displayed, the help window will take on the border characteristics of the DDS window. So when the help panel is displayed, it comes up with a solid border instead of the expected dotted lines. How can we avoid this?

A: It's not a bug, it's a feature! (Keep repeating that until you believe it.) Actually, that's not far from the truth. Help panels take their border attributes from the display format they're invoked from. Therefore, you can use the window-border (WNDBORDER) keyword to control what the help panel window borders will look like.
