If you want to keep some notes in the system and you don't want to invest in a notepad program or write a program yourself, you will probably set up a member in QTXTSRC, call it NOTES or something and use SEU to view it or change it.
If you know how to use PDM, you can make up your own notepad as shown in 1. Unlike SEU, this method will sort and categorize all your notes. Notice that I have created a source file called NOTEPAD, and that I'm using the Work with Members using PDM (WRKMBRPDM) panel.
If you know how to use PDM, you can make up your own notepad as shown in Figure 1. Unlike SEU, this method will sort and categorize all your notes. Notice that I have created a source file called NOTEPAD, and that I'm using the Work with Members using PDM (WRKMBRPDM) panel.
The member name starts with the letter A, followed by year, month and day so they may be sorted in date sequence. Each member is empty. Of course, you can always enter more information within the member itself. If you need to keep more than one entry per day, you can use a letter suffix. For example, use member names A920905A and A920905B for September 5, 1992.
By using different descriptions under TYPE, you can select and view only the meetings if you wish, by specifying the member type after hitting F17.
Editor's Note: This is a clever use of PDM, but keep in mind that each member takes up about 7KB of storage, even if empty. Considering how much DASD today's systems have, this is not too bad. Still, it may become an issue if you're running low on space and you haven't cleaned up your notepad source file in a while. Make it a point to remove obsolete entries periodically; you can do so by selecting option 4 from the WRKMBRPDM panel or running the Remove Member (RMVM) command.
