Mindreef, a company that helps ensure SOA quality, has announced SOAPscope Server 6.0, featuring a new plug-in software architecture for SOA testing, performance, and quality that enables test-driven development of Web services and composite applications.

SOAPscope Server 6.0 has been expanded to support add-on modulesùthe first of which is Load Check, which significantly reduces the complexity and cost of load testing. It also makes load testing available to the entire service team, not just a few specialists responsible for running the tests. The expandable SOAPscope Server architecture allows teams to add modules specific to their needs as their SOA implementations grow from tens to hundreds of services and become more complex.

In a related announcement, Mindreef customers and partners praise the enhancements in SOAPscope Server 6.0 and Load Check see Mindreef News A free white paper addressing the importance of agile load checking for SOA quality is available at White Paper.

Module Breaks SOA Performance Barriers

In the past, load testing has consistently been complex, expensive, and often implemented at the end of a lifecycleùcausing costly delays when performance and scalability bottlenecks are discovered too late to effectively locate or address them. Mindreef Load Check brings powerful new easy-to-use testing features to the very beginning of the service lifecycle. This gives development and QA teams the ability to incrementally test and load check services during all stages of SOA development, without requiring specialized performance testing skills.

Testing early and often allows everyone on the service teamùfrom management to line engineersùto have visibility and understanding of the performance of each service well before it heads toward production. Performance problems and bottlenecks are easily identified and corrected as they happen, prior to being formally load tested by the corporate performance team, preventing "baked-in" issues that are costly and time consuming to re-engineer at the last minute.

Load Check is extremely easy to use by anyone during all stages of development; any team member can start load checking a Web service in less than an hour and view results using a readable interface. Load Check leverages the scenario testing capability in SOAPscope Server 6.0 to support testing for multiple orchestrated scenarios. This means that load is added to the service in the same way that composite applications will be using the services.

When used with SOAPscope Server 6.0, Load Check allows service teams toù

  • Quickly and easily check load and validate daily builds
  • Avoid project delays and performance deficiencies due to last-minute testing
  • Be fully prepared as they go to the formal corporate performance lab and
  • Pay one fixed price for the module, with no per "virtual user" costs
  • "SOA quality goes far beyond Web Services testing; Mindreef's focus on the design-time, run-time, and change-time aspects of SOA quality management shows how well Mindreef delivers on what SOA teams need today," said Jason Bloomberg, senior analyst, ZapThink.

"The new version of SOAPscope Server with Load Check underscores Mindreef's leadership position in the industry with an expandable architecture to address SOA quality and performance issues today and in the future."

"Mindreef Load Check makes performance testing and load checking available early in the lifecycleùthis has been a growing demand from our customers and something not available to them until now," said Jim Murphy, vice president of product management at Mindreef. "We've had performance teams at several large companies request solutions for services to be well tested before arriving at their performance labs. The Mindreef team has received enthusiastic feedback from our beta sites that SOAPscope Server 6.0 with Load Check is accomplishing the task plus allowing teams to utilize test-driven development techniques to confidently build high-quality services and pinpoint performance and scalability issues early and cost effectively."

    SOA Performance and Load Checking

SOAPscope Server 6.0 provides development and testing teams with easy-to-use, automated tools for performance and load checking, test automation, design-time governance and interactive ad-hoc testing. All of these are fully integrated into a single server-based platform to facilitate effective collaboration and sharing of service assets and best practices. In addition to Mindreef Load Check, SOAPscope Server 6.0 introduces other key product enhancements and features. These include:

  • Named endpoint mappingùallows services to be easily tested in different environments, such as development, testing, and production
  • Test suitesùpulls together multiple scenario tests into an automated regression test with graphical results and PDF reports
  • Service Spacesùmakes it possible to support multiple service teams on one SOAPscope server, and
  • Policy Rules Managerùeasy-to-author policy validation rules and validation of services, making your design-time governance complete.
  • Pricing and Availability

Mindreef SOAPscope Server 6.0 is generally available in several configurations starting at $9,000 per year for a minimum of 5 concurrent users, and $15,000 for five users in a perpetual license. Mindreef Load Check is generally available and sold as an add-on module for $20,000 irrespective of the number of users.
