Pinch Hitter Solutions, a System i solutions provider, is proud to announce the release of V1.2 of SQL(snap), a rapid development engine that generates SQL for use in RPG, Java, and PHP. SQL(snap) removes the complexity and tediousness of working with embedded SQL, the company says, and provides System i developers with a solution that speeds SQL-related development and helps modernize legacy applications.

In addition to generating code, SQL(snap) serves as a single portal through which a user can access every database in the enterprise. This includes DB2/400, DB2, Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL, Postgre and others. SQL(snap) ships with three distinct modules including the Database Navigator, SQL Assist, and the Snap Code Generator. These combine to provide a simple point-and-click interface for the creation of complex queries, performing data analysis, and generating SQL code. By providing a single SQL interface to every database in the enterprise, SQL(snap) eliminates the need for multiple query tools to access multiple databases.

sqlsnap_press_release_screenshot.jpgScott Salisbury, Pinch Hitter Solutions software architect, says, "SQL(snap) dramatically accelerates the speed of development. Typically, too much time is spent dealing with the tediousness of embedded SQL. Developers are easily frustrated by its nuances and relative complexity when compared to traditional record-level access provided by the RPG programming environment." He adds that "in order to modernize or Web-enable legacy RPG applications or develop software for other platforms, such as Java and PHP, embedded SQL is essential. SQL(snap) provides high-performance SQL code generation for use in RPG, Java, and PHP allowing software developers to focus on business logic rather than the tediousness of messy embedded SQL."

Understanding the proper use of parameterized prepared statements, cursors, transaction management and other SQL related minutiae can be tricky. SQL(snap) eliminates the headache associated with hand coding these details and provides snap-in code to be used in your existing legacy applications or new development projects. In addition, SQL(snap) helps System i developers learn Java and PHP by handling the details surrounding database I-O and by providing fully functional programs based on the customers own data.

For a limited time, SQL(snap) is optionally bundled at no additional cost with Database Everywhere, a software server that allows RPG and CL programs to access Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, DB2, MySQL and others in real time. SQL(snap) generates the SQL and RPG hooks used in customer applications to access remote enterprise databases with Database Everywhere.
