ProData has announced enhancements to DBU Remote Database access (DBU RDB) plug-in for the popular System i database utility, DBU. This latest feature enables developers to directly access all databases with a JDBC driver on other platforms using DBU. The RDB software is available on the ProData Web site and has been a popular download since it was introduced more than a year ago.
DBU RDB allows users to access cross-platform, real-time data on remote systems using either the DBU green screen interface or DBU applications through the DBU graphical interface. DBU RDB has supported access to MySQL, Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, DB2 database and now will support all databases with JDBC drivers, such as Informix, Sybase, Cache and more. Data is displayed in the same manner as DB2 data on the System i when using DBU and adheres to file authorities as defined in each remote database.
"DBU RDB allows our customers simple setup and the use of one database tool across multiple platforms to access their data," said Allen Hartley, ProData owner and CEO. "With DBU RDB, they no longer have to learn other tools to access remote information." The setup for remote database access through DBU is straightforward using the DBU RDB configuration function. Remote access can be further secured using System i object level authority.
With this enhancement, ProData continues to offer a feature-rich database utility that loyal followers have come to expect. The performance & functionality of DBU continues to provide quick and easy access to all information about and contained within the DB2 database. And now this even allows access to all other cross-platform databases.
