Excel Program Inventions has announced a new release of Database Assistant database change and analysis tool.
Version 2.2 of Database Assistant can reduce typical RPG database maintenance projects by up to 80 percent, the company says.
Database Assistant is a field-level change and analysis tool designed to radically reduce the manual programming effort required to apply field changes to database files and RPG applications on the iSeries/System i and AS/400. It can be used on a regular basis to save System i shops time and money, the company says.
"Database Assistant is a unique tool that automates the manual and tedious process of pinpointing and applying required field changes to DDS source members and data files," said John Caine of Excel Program Inventions. "It converts file data without the need for programming."
Caine said the tool also highlights and modifies impacted field references in any related RPG source programs and display and printer files. It also globally recompiles the impacted application objects. Caine says that "Database Assistant is great for field expansion projects or adding new fields to the database."
Version 2.2 now includes CL support to track and pinpoint changes to CL programs. This latest release also includes a new feature to optionally generate SQL for changed files, if required.
