MPG will now be able to help users model what-if views of specific server workloads or a consolidation of workloads.
Midrange Performance Group (MPG) announced today a partnership with International Data Corporation (IDC) whereby MPG will license and embed IDC’s Qualified Performance Indicator (QPI) into its Power Navigator product, providing systems administrators and sales professionals with the ability to model server workloads across various manufacturers’ server platforms.
Detailed information regarding IDC’s QPI can be found at www.idc.com/qpi. Using the underlying indication of relative server performance built into QPI, MPG will assist users in modeling specific server workloads, or the consolidation of many server workloads, on other server hardware offered by different manufacturers.
"MPG will be able to assist users in modeling a 'what-if' view of a specific server workload (or consolidation of several server workloads), as if they were executing on various servers or models,” says Randy Watson, president at MPG. "Power Navigator equipped with QPI will enable instant analysis of how the performance of a 'Brand A' server workload will look like on 'Brand B.'"
The relationship between MPG and IDC will enable MPG’s Business Partners to show their clients their own specific workloads, modeled to various server options, with the confidence that such a technology change will actually work successfully.
"We are excited to see companies like MPG leverage IDC's industry-standard server performance indicator, QPI," said Dave Reinsel, group vice president at IDC. "MPG provides a valuable service in helping IT managers plan for server migration or consolidation, and QPI plays a strategic role in informing those decisions."
Server workloads are automatically collected with Power Navigator on systems running AIX, Oracle Solaris, HPUX, and Linux (all platforms). Power Navigator Powered by QPI is available immediately.
In addition to capacity planning, Power Navigator can automate the production of reports and graphs for management on a schedule basis. Power Navigator’s Windows component can be downloaded from www.mpginc.com. The user will be prompted to install the free host code called PN/Unix. Users can email
